Funeral services for life-long Sikes, Louisiana resident, Stephen Tommy Underwood, was held Friday, December 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel  with family friends Reverend Robert Leach and Reverend Kenneth Tarver, with a eulogy  iven by his nephew, Tony McManus. Interment followed in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in the Fellowship Community near Tommy’s home in Sikes. Pallbearers were Jerry Ingles, Royce Calhoun, Gary Tolbert, La Dale Pate, Kenneth Clifton, and Wesley Simons. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Lasyone, Mike Clingan, Herman Grantadams and Roger Rutledge.  Tommy Underwood was born June 23, 1946, the first child of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Connie Underwood. He passed from this life, Tuesday, December 16, 2014, peacefully at his home surrounded by those he loved. Tommy’s working years were spent in the logging woods working as a skidder driver.

Mrs. Ava E. Brewton Box, age 86 of Goldonna, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Born Monday, September 17, 1928 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her Father, Olen Brewton,  Mother, Lucy Morgan Brewton, Husband, Kenneth Box. Daughter, Elizabeth Ann Box, and Sister, Johnnye Bryant. She was a longtime member of the Antioch Community Church and retired from Calvin High School Cafeteria after 26 years of service. Mrs. Box was an avid reader, but more than  anything, enjoyed studying her Bible. Those left to cherish her memory include her Daughter, Brenda Ables, Goldonna, LA, Daughter, Ann Martin, Winnfield, LA, Grandchildren, Billy Collins and Brandi, Amy Martin, Lacey Martinez, and Jason and JoAnna Collins, Great Grandchildren, Madi, Hayden, Alexa, Caleb, Dylan, Noah, and Cheyenne, and Sister, Mabel Bagwell.

  Mr. James Eugene Carpenter, age 69 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, December 09, 2014. Born Monday, January 29, 1945 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. He enjoyed all things outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed gardening. Mr.  Carpenter served his community through 50 plus years in the auto body repair industry where he made thousands of friends. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his Parents, Jessie James and Emma Jean Boyette Carpenter; Father and Motherin- law, Odell & Doyle Lowrey.

Mrs. Willa Dee Luther Dow, age 72 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday,  December 12, 2014. Born Monday, April 27, 1942 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her Father, John W. Luther, Mother,  Gladis Cannon Luther, Sisters, Doris Allen, Sue Luther, and LaVerne Ingram, Brothers, A. D. Luther, T.L. Luther, and  Wesley Luther. Those left to cherish her memory include her Husband, Frank Dow, Winnfield, LA, Daughter, Brenda (Sissy) DuBois and husband Ronnie, Winnfield, LA, Grandchildren, Melissa Lashley, Candice Gauthier, Justin DuBois and Blake Dubois, and Great Grandchildren, Kimberly, Zoey, Zaita, Gabriel,  Maddie, Mason, Stella and Easton. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Southern Funeral Home with the Reverends Travis Hampton and Russell Jones officiating. Interment followed in Corinth Cemetery, in Jordan Hill.

Mary Ann Burchfield Nelson, 69, of Bossier City, Louisiana passed away on December 7, 2014 at her home  after a lengthy illness. She was born February 13, 1945 in Greenville, Ms. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vida Dempsey Burchfield and Charles Phillip Burchfield Sr., her brothers,  Charles Phillip Burchfield Jr. and Edward Earl Burchfield, and her late husband Jimmy Dale Nelson Sr. She is survived by her siblings, Quinton Burchfield, Nelson Burchfield, Nancy Ingram, Sherry Moffett, Phyllis Wilkerson,  Judy Danysh, Jo Kathy Gilbreath, Raymond Paul Burchfield, Penny Brown, Michael Wayne Burchfield, and Teri Blackmon , her children, Jimmy Dale Nelson Jr., Stephen R. Nelson, Susan M. Johnson and husband Tommy M. Johnson Sr., Jennifer S.

Mr. JC Reed, age 87, of Pineville, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Reed was a former resident of Jonesboro, Louisiana, and a former member of Southside Baptist Church of Jonesboro and Hodge Baptist Church. Predeceasing him were his parents, John and Cosie Reed of Jackson Parish, and cousin, Dewey Anderson, of Jackson Parish. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willie Jean Reed of  Pineville, Louisiana, and by his three sons and their wives: Gary Wayne and Sandra Reed of Baton Rouge; Denny Lynn and Cheryl Reed of Winnfield; and Eric Jay and Kerri Reed of Alexandria. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Heather Christina Reed and Gary Wayne Reed, Jr., of Baton Rouge; Tambry Reed Slavich and husband, Sam, of Metarie; and Eric Connor Reed and Ethan Christopher Reed of Alexandria.
