Winn Playgrounds and Recreation Board Hosts Art Camp

Article Image Alt Text

Last week the Winn Playground and Recreation Board hosted a very special art camp for some of the students who are eagerly waiting for the first day of school. It was not only an educational camp, but it also provided the young people an opportunity to visit with old friends and make some new ones.

Mr. Daniel Rockett and Ms. Shannon Chevallier were the art instructors for the week, and did an excellent job of teaching the youngsters about ancient Greek art and its many forms.

They learned about mythology and sculpture when they heard the story of Medusa, then created their own head full of snakes, using hats and colorful paper. On one day of the camp, they were able to learn about, and create, their rown pottery.

New Driving Laws and Increased Fines for Cell Phone Use

The State of Louisiana has two new driving laws that lawmakers hope to see save lives. Governor John Bel Edwards signed two new Bills introduced by Senator Ryan Gatti and Representative Chad Brown.

House Bill 241 makes it mandatory that driving schools teach students what to do, and what not to do, when pulled over by law enforcement officers. House Bill 17 requires student drivers to take the course and be tested on the material before being granted a Louisiana Drivers License. Lawmakers hope that educating new drivers about driver conduct during a traffic stop will prevent simple traffic stops from escalating. Beginning August 1, 2017, driving schools must incorporate the lessons, and starting January 1, 2018, driver’s license applicants will be tested on the subject.
