Goldonna Hosts Saline Creek Festival on Saturday, Sept. 2

The Saline Creek Festival will held this Saturday, and is a great way for the family to celebrate the long Labor Day Weekend. The festival will kick off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and lasts until 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Festival organizers say there will be plenty of arts and crafts vendors with homemade and handmade items, along with some direct sales vendors. The day will also include lots of food, a scavenger hunt and a live band. The Village of Goldonna invites everyone to attend the festival and enjoy a day with family and friends.

Organizers say it isn’t too late to reserve a vendor booth. Those interested should contact Ms. Verna Bedgood at 318-727-8770.

Harvey Making No Friends In Texas and Louisiana

In anticipation of record rainfall across the state, last Thursday, Governor John Bel Edwards issued the following statement.

BATON ROUGE — Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Louisiana in anticipation of severe weather as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

“All arms of the state’s emergency preparedness and response apparatus are planning for the serious threat posed by Hurricane Harvey, and we are calling on all Louisianans throughout the state to do so as well,” said Gov. Edwards. “I will continue to direct all of the necessary resources to preparing for the worst as we all pray for the best, but rest assured, state and local officials are working around the clock to monitor and respond to this potentially dangerous situation.”

The Tiger Nation Shows Support

Article Image Alt Text

Last Thursday, the Winnfield Senior High School Tiger Football Team invited the public out to Meet The Tigers at Stokes Walker Stadium, and the fans turned out in force. An exciting pep rally of sorts took place in the packed end zone of the field, with friends, family and fans of all ages participating.

The fan day was opened with prayer for the safety of all the players and others involved with the season, and for the students who had just returned to school on Tuesday. Coach Bankston also welcomed the crowd and thanked them for their support of the Tigers. He gave an optimistic talk about his expectations for the season, and spoke of his pride in the team: in the classroom, in our community, and on the ball field.

All of the players were introduced to the fans and showed off the Tigers’ new uniforms. The cheerleaders led the group in some cheers, and the Toy Tigers gave a memorable performance, while the band played.

Teachers and administrators welcomed the students back with open arms and an excitement about what the coming school year will hold.

Search Continues for Cindy

Article Image Alt Text

On June 13, 2017, family members dropped off 23-year old single mother Cynthia Orsborn, from Marthaville, at a friend’s home in the Natchitoches area, and she has not been heard from, or seen since that date. On June 21, Ms. Orsborn’s family members contacted the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and reported her missing.

Ms. Orsborn was last known to be in the company of Jack Daniel (J. D.) Nobles, a 41 year old, described as a person of interest in the disappearance. In a statement to authorities, Mr. Nobles said, “We were walking from the library in Calvin to come to try to get phone to connect to Wi-Fi and she got in a dark green or blue or brown (car). All I know is it was dark, about 9:45 couldn’t see inside.”
