The 4th Annual New Orleans Memorial Stair Climb was held on the morning of Saturday, September 21,2019 from 7:00 am until 12:00 pm. The mission of this climb is to honor and remember the fallen heroes from 9/11/01. Also recognized was any Louisiana and Gulf Coast first responders that had perished during the previous year.

Eighteen years after the collapse of the Twin Towers, the New Orleans Memorial Star Climb continues to pay tribute to the 343 firefighters,60 law enforcement officers,and 8 emergency medical service technicians that made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.

President Tommy Bankston and forty-five educators of the Winn Parish Retired Teachers Association gathered eagerly at the first meeting of the new school year to hear Dr. Chris Maggio, President of Northwestern University discuss the immense progress achieved by NSU. Dr. Maggio praised the teamwork of his faculty and expressed appreciation of their encouragement, support, and dedication.

Student enrollment reached 10,900 and 11,081 in the last two years, a remarkable achievement. Northwestern campuses can be found in Natchitoches, Shreveport, Alexandria, and Leesville. Other sites include Bossier Parish Community College, Barksdale, Marksville and Deridder. Also, NSU is the first university to embrace online learning. All these opportunities for intellectual growth are critical for Louisiana residents, since only 22% have a college degree.

The Winnfield Tigers wasted no time last Friday night as they scored on the fourth play on offense. Winnfield took the opening kickoff and drove 80 yards in just four plays ending with a 22-yard TD Run. The Tiger offense proved very effective with the tandem of Isiah Loucious and Rett Blake combining for 209 yards.

After the opening kickoff, the Winnfield Tiger defense immediately produced a three and out. On the ensuing Panther punt, Jake Lashley received the punt and went 67 yards for another touchdown.

However, the Winnfield defense let Lincoln Prep back into the game, giving up a 56 yard run that resulted in a Panther touchdown. The Winnfield Tiger defense was able to make adjustments and did not allow another score after that. Winnfield defeated Lincoln Prep 54 to

Keith Bailey of the Behavioral Specialists of Louisiana in Winnfield visited the Healthy Initiative Coalition on Thursday, September 12. Their center, which is in Winnfield, is the only one they have in this area. Dr. Bamburg began in Shreveport and quickly had to expand to accommodate the need. The clinic assesses and treats children and adults with developmental disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as ADHD. In May, the Winnfield center opened with Keith Bailey as the Behavior Specialist. Their goal was to serve 15 children of early age, 2-7, and 10 children in their afterschool program within the first six months. At this point, they have met and surpassed those goals.
