2017 La. Forest Festival Called One Of The Best

The week leading up to the Louisiana Forest Festival was a bit uncertain around Winn Parish. There were predictions for rain and thunderstorms, and even the possibility of tornado activity. With that in mind, organizers of the Louisiana Forest Festival hoped for the best, but prepared for the worst, as the weekend grew closer.

Thankfully, Friday night was perfect weather for the parade and fireworks, and Saturday only had a few raindrops falling on the Winn Parish Fairgrounds.

There was a great turnout for the 1st Annual Autumn Michelle VanBlaricum Memorial Scholarship ‘Stache Dash, and the early morning could not have been more agreeable.

Dr. Dupree Educates About Men’s Health at New Zion MBC

Article Image Alt Text

Cancer has impacted us all in some capacity. It truly upset the New Zion MBC in 2010with the loss of Reverend Tommy G. Hamms.

In respect of our current pastor and in the memory of the late Reverend Hamms, the New Zion MBC Family has joined Winn Parish in the fight against cancer.

One of the Team fellowships was with our Brotherhood Ministry. We had Dr. Dupree as guest speaker to inform our men on health issues that affect African-American men and how some cancers affect them more aggressively. We are grateful to Dr. Dupree for accepting the invitation and sharing his knowledge to our men’s ministry. He gave incredible tips to help them improve their health and enjoyed the chicken and waffle dinner. Thank you Dr. Dupree for helping to make our Team Fellowship a success.

Master Gardeners First April Showers Spring Hat Luncheon Held

Article Image Alt Text

This past Saturday, the Winn Master Gardeners held their first April Showers Spring Hat Luncheon at the perfectly decorated First Assembly of God Fellowship Center. Ladies(and gentlemen) in attendance came to the event with creative and beautifully decorated hats and were treated to quite an afternoon. Emcees for the day were Ms. Rita James and Ms. Bonnie Buckalew.

After Ms. Rita James welcomed the guests, The Youth Shop and The Girlfriend presented a fashion show of trendsetting spring and summer fashions. Local young ladies and Master Gardeners donned the latest fashions and modeled them among the tables of attendees. The theme for the season appeared to be chic comfort, with a mix of linen and denim cropped pants and swingy tunic tops. Dresses and rompers were also featured, and all of the outfits included unique jewelry pieces.
