Trammell's Retirement Announcement

Melissa M. Trammell is retiring from the Winn Parish School Board on February 7, 2020. She has worked in public education in Louisiana for 44 years as a teacher, an Educational Consultant, Title I Director, and, lastly, in Winn Parish, as the Special Education Supervisor. She holds a BS, a M.ED. and an ED.S, all from Northwestern State University. She has also studied at Grambling State University and Brigham Young University.

Melissa has two sons, Travis and Richard. Travis is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and has just completed a PhD at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. He, his wife, Sarah, and their four children, Sophia, Travis, IV, Garrett, and Mary Louise, are awaiting orders for their next post. Her younger son, Richard, and his wife, Elizabeth, have recently relocated to Shreveport from New York City. Richard graduated from New York University and Elizabeth obtained a Masters from Pratt Institute in the city. They will continue their work remotely with Condé Nast and W.W. Norton as well as other companies based in New York. They have one child, Maggie, and will be welcoming their second in the summer.

Melissa’s interests in retirement continue to be education, particularly education equality, prison reform, and any and all ways to promote democracy. She wants to thank the people of Winn Parish for allowing her to serve them for the last 18 years and hopes to continue to serve through volunteer work.
