Keith Gates introduced guest speaker Monic Triplett from the Winn Parish Library to the Kiwanis club, Monday, October 30th. Triplett introduced herself as having been born in Winnfield but not raised all the way here because she was a military brat. She has returned here to live and is very happy being back and working at the library. She showed a picture of the new library logo which was voted on at the Winn Parish Fair.

Mickey Hoffpauir introduced his guest speaker Lance Rabalais to the club Monday, November 13th. Rabalais needed no introduction as he is a Past President of the Winnfield Kiwanis club and an active member until he moved.

Rabalais is a Farm Bureau agent and he spoke to the club about the high automobile insurance rates in Louisiana and also about the Louisiana Citizens Plan Assessment.

Louisiana auto insurance rates are the 7th highest in the nation and have been a frequent contender for the top spot. The cause of high auto insurance rates is policy decisions made by the Louisiana lawmakers (the Legislature).

The Winnfield Kiwanis club held its annual Installation Banquet, Monday, Oct. 16th at the First Presbyterian Church. Outgoing President Rita James called the meeting to order. After the pledge, invocation, defining statement, and prayer James welcomed everyone and introduced guests. The group then enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Linda Peavy. After the meal, President James presented special recognitions and awards.

The Legion of Honor Honorees were Dr. Jerry Williams with 55 years of service, Dr. Bill Gaddis with 40 years of service, Jimmy Dale Zimmerman with 25 years of service and Margaret Coon with 21 years of service with Terrific Kids.

Bailor Brown earned the Participation Award in the Winn Parish Fair 4-H Cookery Contest Beef Division: Main Dish. She treated the judges to a Hobo Dinner that can be prepared ahead of time for cooking at home, or over a campfire.
