Winnfield Kiwanis Club Hears from Troy Rogers at Recent Meeting

Troy Rogers, Winn ParishFire District 3 Chief andKiwanian spoke to theKiwanis club Monday, April27thabout his model train col-lection and trains in general.He has a long history of lov-ing trains. When he was achild he would ride from hishome on Bernstein St. to thedepot to see the trains. Finallyhe was allowed to even ridesome. When he got his firstjob running a paper route hesaved his money to buy modeltrains. That first collectionwas eventually sold but hebegan to collect again later.

Mayor Beville Speaks at Recent Kiwanis Meeting

Mayor Kiah Beville spoke to the Kiwanis club about the ACT Work Ready Community program that is designed to develop a workforce for the community. This workforce can come from our parish and the parishes that connect to Winn Parish. For companies to want to come here and establish a business we need to be certified as a work ready community.

Winn Parish Rodeo Set for Saturday

Winn Parish girls Jacie Womack and Bailor Brown will be performing at the Forest FestivalRodeo this Saturday.Womack and Brown will be performing alongside a team of trick riders during the youth sec-tion of the rodeo at 2:00 p.m. They are both under the instruction of Ms. Leann Young, a trick-riding instructor from the Dave Collins Natural Horsemanship in Dubach, LA. She was a per-former for the Dixie Stampede for 15 years and after the birth of her son, moved back toLouisiana to be closer to her family.

Relay for Life, May 1

Winnfield will host its annual Relay for Life event on May 1,2015, at Stolkes Walker Stadium. The event will kick-off withthe Survivor Lap at 6:00. The luminaria ceremony will begin at9:00 pm.This year’s event will recognize three very deserving individ-uals. The event is being held in honor of cancer survivor andactive Relay for Life participant, Mrs. Cindy Varnell. Cindy hasbeen very active in Relay for several years and has been gra-cious in volunteering her time to fight for a cure.

“Employee of the Quarter”

Marilyn Parker has been awarded “Employee of the Quarter” at your Neighborhood Nichols store. She helped in the Winnfield “Clean Up” for the Cleanest City Contest and has been helping patients at the nursing homes. They are very thankful for her donated time. Marilyn also gives canned goods to the needy, as well as caught shoplifters here at our store. Marilyn, we are all very proud of you.

Lance Rabalais, Kiwanian and local Farm Bureau agent, spoke to the Kiwanis club, Monday, March 23rd. Rabalais reminisced over his years in the Kiwanis club as he is transferring to the Bossier City Farm Bureau office and will be leaving the club.

Specialty Hospital of Winnfield hosts Spring Health Fair

The Specialty Hospital of Winnfield hosted a Spring Health Fair on March 19 at the A. Leonard Allen Building in Winnfield. This free event included vendors from various medical services within Winn Parish, who presented various information on a number of health concerns. Vendors included Autumn Leaves Nursing and Rehabilitation, Pharmacy Services of Winnfield, the Winnfield Fire Department, the Winnfield Police Department, Winnfield Nursing and Rehabilitation, Wal-Mart Pharmacy, Winn Massage Therapy and others. Door prizes and free gifts were given to visitors.
