Mobley Couple Celebrates 60th Wedding AnniversaryFrank

Frank and Bobbie Jean Collins Mobley celebrated their 60thwedding anniversary June 1, 2015. The celebration began Sunday,May 31, with altar flowers placed in the First Baptist Church in Winnfield in their honor. Sunday lunch was prepared for themat the home of her brother Shelton Collins and his wife Jackie. The celebration continued on Friday, June 5, on Houston CountyLake in Crockett, Texas. The entire family spent the long weekend kayaking, tubing, playing games, and just being together.Congratulations, Frank and Bobbie Jean, on 60 years together!

Triplett, Turner to Wed June 20

Nikki Triplett and the late Tolbert Trilett, III of Winnfield, LA and Daphanie Turner-Lewis also of Winnfield, LA wish to announce the upcoming marriage of their children, Tashana Triplett and Demond Turner, both of Winnfield. Tashana’s maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John C. Jones Jr. of Winnfield, LA. Paternal grandparents are Murlene Triplett and the late Tolbert Triplett Jr. of Winnfield, LA; and her maternal grandmother is Doretha Winslow of Clarence, LA. She is a 2011 graduate of Winnfield Senior High School and a May 2015 graduate of Northwestern State University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.

Rotary Club of Winnfield celebrated

The Rotary Club of Winnfield celebrated with the T-Ball team that they sponsor by having a hot dog cookout after one of their recent games. The T-ball team was comprised of 5-6 year old girls and was coached by Lacy Nugent.

Dupree Speaks at Recent Kiwanis Meeting

Local author Ben Dupree spoke to the Kiwanis club, Monday, June 1, 2015. He was born and raised and still lives in Goldonna, La. Dupree taught in the public school system in Winn and Natchitoches parishes until he was medically retired. His medical retirement came as the result of being diagnosed with blaphrospasm which is muscle spasms of the eyelids (involuntary closure of eyelids) and leads to functional blindness. Dupree said he thought teaching was his calling until he could not teach anymore.

The Department of Creative and Performing Arts at theLouisiana School for Math,Science, and the Arts presented its end of year awards during a ceremony held Monday,May 11, in the recital halllocated in the Center for Performance and Technology.Audra Allen, director of the dance program presented awards to students that were voted on and chosen by their peers.

Atlanta High SchoolAlumni Reunion Set

On Saturday, June 13 will be our annual school reunion. Wewill begin with registration and visitation at 4 p.m.there will be a business meeting to discuss old and new busi-ness, projects we are working on.The scholarship recipients will also be attending this meeting.Also, we are honor several members of the faculty for theirachievements during the year and a retiree.

The Third McCarty Family Reunion will be held Saturday,June 6, 2015 at the Community Center located at the WinnfieldFair Grounds on HWY 34. Families descending from Michaeland Amos McCarty who settled in the Sikes and Winnfield areaare cordially invited to attend the lunch and reunion.The cost of the meal per person is $16.50.

American Legion Auxiliary

American Legion Auxiliary members from left to right, Florene Keen, Maxine Godman, and Gayle Gilcrease placed a memorial wreath at the gravesite of Everett Fick on Memorial Day. He was killed in action during World War I and the American Legion Auxiliary is named for him.

Committee Chairman Lamar

Kiwanis Scholarship Committee Chairman Lamar Tarver introduced Beaux Cody Vines and his parents Amy and Brett Vines to the Kiwanis Club Monday, May 18. Vines received one of two $750 scholarships given by the club this ear. Tarver told the Vines family and reminded the club that the money for the scholarships came from the Boston  Butt lunch that is held each spring. Beaux Vines scored a 29 on the ACT, had a 4.0 GPA and was one of the valedictorians in his graduating class. Vines told the club that he is planning to attend ULM with a double major in history and accounting. He would like to teach history and maybe do some accounting on the side. However, Vines also said he is going to be in the ROTC at college and is very interested in being in the army. He would like to attend West Point. He has applied but was not accepted and may reapply later. He won a scholarship to go to Normandy this summer.
