Jasmine Starks Graduates from Grambling

The parents of Jasmine Monique Starks (Morgan Perry and Sharon Starks) along with their family, wish to congratulate her for graduating with the Fall Commencement Class at Grambling State University. She received a Bachelor of Science degree and graduated Cum Laude.

Jasmine’s family is very proud of her persistence, determination and courage for achieving this accomplishment. She was persistent in no giving up when times became hard. She was determined in not accepting any “nos, ifs, and or buts”.

Winn Parish Students Attend National 4H Congress

Miss Betty Sue Southerland, age 83 of Winnfield, Louisiana went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 26, 2017. Present at her beside were her two loving sisters Barbara Marshall and Carol Melton. Bom January 6, 1934, in Port Barre, LA, she was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Montgomery and Marjorie Thelma (Grimmett) Southerland; sister, Norma Jean Southerland; and brother, Jerry Hugh Southerland. Miss Southerland was a member of the Atlanta Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, mowing and hunting. She worked at Winnfield First Federal, Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office, Troy’s Supermarket, and the Mayor’s Office before retiring.

Weyerhaeuser Gives Back To WKS

Weyerhaeuser is deeply connected to the communities where they operate and has a long history of helping communities thrive. The first charitable donation was made in 1903 and since that time, they have provided more than $232 million in grants through their formal giving program, which was established in 1948.

Most recently, they have given back to our own community through the company’s Giving Fund.

Mrs. Fran Walton To Present Christmas Concert At First United Methodist Church, This Sunday

First United Methodist Church will host a piano concert on Sunday afternoon, December 17. Presented by Mrs. Fran Walton, the program will begin at 4:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Mrs. Walton has shared her musical talent as pianist and organist at First United Methodist Church for over forty years.

Program selections will include both sacred and popular selections interspersed with Mrs. Walton’s charm and wit. Following the concert, a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. The community is invited to share in this special program of Christmas music.

Monic Triplett speaks to Kiwanis Club

Keith Gates introduced guest speaker Monic Triplett from the Winn Parish Library to the Kiwanis club, Monday, October 30th. Triplett introduced herself as having been born in Winnfield but not raised all the way here because she was a military brat. She has returned here to live and is very happy being back and working at the library. She showed a picture of the new library logo which was voted on at the Winn Parish Fair.
