Winn Parish Medical Center Representatives speak to Kiwanis

Guest speakers for the July 31st Kiwanis club meeting were from Winn Parish Medical Center. Bryan Bogle, CEO at Winn Parish Medical Center, introduced Michelle Malzahn, Physician’s Assistant at Winn Wellness Clinic; Brook Johnson, Office manager at Winn Wellness Clinic and Lindlay Howell, Marketing Liaison for Winn Parish Medical Center.

Tony Acosta is also a Physician’s Assistant at Winn Wellness Clinic. The supervising physician for the clinic is Dr. Mark Shelton.

Malzahn spoke about the clinic. They accept patients from 2 years of age and up. They accept walk-ins. They accept all insurance including Medicare and Medicaid. They also accept people who do not have insurance. They also offer physicals.

The 59th WHS/WSHS Annual Reunion Hosted by the Class of 1967 June 23-24, 2017

A great time was had by members of 44 classes attending the 59th WHS/WSHS Reunion on June 23-24, 2017, at the Winnfield Civic Center. Honoring the Class of 1967’s Fiftieth Anniversary, alumnicame from MS, TX, FL, GA, OK, AR, MD, TN, UT, and LA.

When the reunions began in1955, the first Alumni Standing Committee set meetings five years apart, but voted thereafter to become yearly on the fourth Saturday of June. The fiftieth anniversary class began working with the Standing Committee in designing a two day meeting including an informal Friday Buffet, Saturday a.m. Coffee, and an evening Banquet with a program.

Friday began with a welcome from Mayor Kiah Beville for the City of Winnfield and from M.e. Danny Keyes for the Class of‘ 67. The buffet is to give friends time to catch up; many arrived early and stayed well after the meal.

Vara Ferguson Smith of Atlanta, LA was born on August 23, 1917 to the union of Gus & Carrie Ferguson. A reception will be held in her honor on August 5, 2017 at Atlanta Baptist Church from 2-4 pm. Crooks, Bates Exchange Wedding Vows

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry D. “Jay” Crooks, Jr. of Benton, Louisiana, joyfully announce the marriage of their daughter, Anna Abigail Crooks, to Thomas Parrish Bates, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven F. Bates of Winnfield, Louisiana. The wedding took place at Cedar Croft Plantation in Greenwood, Louisiana, on May 27, 2017, at 11 o’clock in the morning. The Reverend Steven Smithson of Winnfield, Louisiana officiated the wedding ceremony. The bride was radiant in her pearl-embellished gown as she was escorted by her father down a brick walkway lined with daylilies while the song, “Two Becoming One”, was sung by the Reverend Gregg Gober and Emily Birdwell, both of Bossier City, Louisiana. A prayer was given by the Reverend John Fream of Benton, Louisiana, and a scripture passage was read by the Reverend John Holland of Winnfield, Louisiana.

Winnfield Residents Attend Pilot International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada

(Winnfield, Jul 9, 2017) – Mrs. Mimi Wold, Kimberly Bruce, Scarlett Lee and Kimberly Nation, all of Winnfield, and members of Winnfield Pilot Club, recently attended the 96th Pilot International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were a mere four of more than 620 Pilots who participated in the global event that drew representatives from more than 4 countries and geographic areas around the world.

Mrs. Scarlett Lee said, “Attending the 2017 Pilot International Convention filled me with pride and excitement to be part of such a great organization of global volunteers. The wonderful speakers there provided several ideas and strategies we can’t wait to implenent at our local level. From the new Brain Minder updates, Anchor growth news and TBI camp ideas, we are all excited for a new year to begin at our local Pilot Club of Winnfield.”

On May 6th, a standing room only audience met at the Winn Parish Library to hear Dr. Terry Jones speak. Dr. Jones brought a very informative and interesting programto many friends, relatives, WGHA members and others wanting to learn more about Winn Parish’s past. Saturday, July 15, 2017, the WGHA will meet in their meeting room at 301 Main Street,

 

Winnfield. Historian Justin Cotten will be sharing about his work in Winn Parish cemeteries. Several members will share their research and activities.

Martin, Williams to Wed Saturday

William and Brandi Martin of Calvin are proud to announce the wedding of their daughter, Hallie Brooke Martin to Steven Lane Williams. Steven is the son of Becky Williams Cheatwood and the late Gerald Williams of Saline.

Area Students Participate in Jump Start Summer Program

Atlanta High School students participated in the Jump Start Summer program sponsored by the Winn Parish School Board. Students were trained and earned credentials including OSHA-10, Customer Service and Sales, SP2 Mechanical Safety and Pollution Prevention, CPR and AED, and FEMA-IS-700. Availability Of Low Income Energy Assistance Funds (LIHEAP)

LaSalle Community Action Assn., Inc is announcing the availability of funds dedicated to assist eligible low income households with their energy payments. All applications are taken on a first come, first served basis. For this one day only. Telephone appointments will be taken beginning the 3rd Thursday of each month from 9:00 am until 11:00 a.m. until all funds are exhausted. To schedule an appointment you may call: 318-389-4810. An eligible household is one whose total income is at or below the levels listed in the table below and who have not received a previous benefit within the past six months. Applicants must provide, at a minimum, the following documentation at the time the application is taken: 1. Copies of each household member’s social security number 2. Proof of income of all household members at 18 or older 3. a copy of an energy bill *must be within the last 12 months) 4. a photo ID of the applicant 5. copy of lease for all clients living in housing. 6.
