John Benjamin (J. B.) Coon

The immortal soul of John Benjamin (J. B.) Coon departed this earthly life on August 31, 2020 in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, and now rests in peace in the arms of his beloved wife, Claudine.

J. B. was born at home in Jonesville, Louisiana, on November 27, 1924, according to his mother (although his birth certificate said it was December 10, we feel sure his mother would be the most knowledgeable source), the eldest of five children. He was raised on a 40-acre farm, where he developed a deep affection for animals (except maybe mules, as hard as they could be to plow the fields with for planting the cotton that was the staple crop of the era), and grew up picking cotton, slaughtering hogs, and hunting rabbits, squirrels and deer for food. He also learned his most folksy expressions growing up in the country, like “I’ll knock a knot on you so big you’ll have to walk and push,” and “that’s so good it’ll make your tongue slap your brains out.”
