Mr. Doyle Douglas Lasyone, age 74 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Winn Parish Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Myrtle Beavers Lasyone; children, Dewayne Lasyone (Jenney), Damon Lasyone (Carla Kay) and Carla Tinnerello (Pete); ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and many close friends.

Born and raised in Winnfield, the son of Odus and Jimmie Lee Smith Lasyone, Doyle was a lifelong resident of Jordan Hill.

Chad Hammons, 47, passed away on August 29th in his home surrounded by family and friends. He is now sheltered in the arms of God and was welcomed home to the praise of good and faithful servant. He was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2010 and he fought a hard battle and never lost his faith.

Chad was a faithful member of Minden Presbyterian Church were he served as an elder. He was employed by Fibrebond, Webster Parish Sheriff’s Department and served as a substitute teacher at Minden High School. No matter where he worked, he left a legacy of respect and friendship.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and spending time with family and friends. Although Chad was father of the year every year, in 2013 KRMD recognized him as their Father of the year. His wife and children were the loves of his life.

James “Jim” Thomas Quitta, affectionately known as “Bobeck” in his youth, passed away on Sunday, the 30th of August 2020. Jim was born on the 29th of October 1931, in Smithville, Texas to Olga and Steve Quitta, Sr. He grew up in Smithville with two older brothers, Fred William and Steve, Jr. and graduated from Smithville High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army. Following that, Jim attended Stephen E Austin State University earning a degree in forestry, which led him to Winnfield, Louisiana where he and his wife of 51 years, Betty Hampton Quitta, raised their 6 children. Jim’s professional career as a forester for Crown Zellebach lasted for over 31 years until he retired.

Carol Ann Harkins, born December 27, 1952, passed from this life on August 8, 2020 having lived 67 years, 8 months, and 8 days. Her parents were John Wesley Harkins and Laura Louise Melton Harkins. You may remember Carol as the lady who walked everywhere and used quite colorful language. She was original, resourceful, and one-ofa-kind. If you made it past her gruff and defensive attitude, you were probably surprised by the fact that she was fiercely independent and really very funny. Even if the public doesn’t recognize Carol by name, everyone knew her by reputation.

Mrs. Nita Ann Rodgers McManus, age 70 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020.

Nita was born October 19, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She graduated from Fair Park High School in 1967 and married Jimmy David McManus in 1969.

Nita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as the Chaplain. Nita cherished her ties to the American Legion. Her father, Fred A. Rodgers, Jr. was the post commander and life charter member who designed and built Post-388 that was later renamed in his honor to the American Legion Fred A. Rodgers Post-388 in Koran, La. (Haughton, LA).

Nita enjoyed her last few years with her Library ladies spending time in friendship and doing various activities that included arts and crafts and painting.

Nita was preceded in death by her mother, Ada Bell Thomas Rodgers; father, Fred A. Rodgers, Jr.; brother, Fred A. Rodgers, III; and her husband of fifty years, Jimmy D. McManus.

Mr. John Lewis “Luther” Kerry age 82 of Winnfield passed away from this life on Friday August 21,2020 at St Joseph’s Hospice Carpenter House in Shreveport La. He was born on April 10,1938 to Ezel “Bennie” and Julia Pardee Kerry at Black Lake (Creston) Louisiana. He was a retired Sergeant of the US Army and Louisiana National Guard after serving for almost 23 years. He worked many places throughout his lifetime including Olin Kraft, Louisiana Pacific, L.L. Brewton Lumber Co., West Frasier, Weyerhaeuser, Wal-Mart and was continuing to work part time at the Winn Parish Sherriff ’s Office Rifle Range. He loved to fish and spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Eunice Arline Kerry, Parents Ezel “Bennie” and Julia Pardee Kerry, Brother Johnnie Kerry, Brother in Law Edward Harper and Great Grandson Douglas Thompson Jr.

Mrs. Ruth Smith James of Sikes, LA passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Ruth was born August 17, 1932, to the union of Eugene and Maggie Parker Smith. After graduation from Sikes High School in 1950, she was employed as desk clerk at the Winnfield Hotel.

On July 30, 1955, she married Charlie James and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he was employed by Swift Packing Company. Mr. James’ job took them to Mobile, Alabama, for a short time, after which they returned to Louisiana in 1959, Ruth then became a full time homemaker. Being outdoors in her yard and with her flowers was her therapy. Ruth was a faithful member of the Sikes Apostolic Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of 55 years Charlie James, sister Bonnie Smith Hubbard, and niece Jeanne Hubbard Grant.

Mark Allen Hattaway, 54 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Hattaway was preceded in death by his parents Huey Hattaway and Gladys Norris

Hattaway, granddaughter Angel Vines, and sister Rosemary O’Neal.

He is survived by his children Sumer Hattaway and Josh Hattaway, grandchildren Aleah, Maggie, Emily, Kayci, Kemmp, Karman, Kole, and Klaire. He is also survived by his brother Randy Hattaway (Sheila) and sister Susan Reed (Michael).

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Atlanta Cemetery with Reverend Lamar Carpenter officiating.

Mr. Robert Louis “Bob” Franklin, age 69 of Goldonna, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield.

Mr. Franklin enjoyed gardening and visiting with family and friends. He was the son of the late William Hall Franklin and the late Esther Brewton Franklin.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Sarah Franklin Little (Eric), a son Seth Anslem (Lindsey) and two brothers William Edwin Franklin (Loretta),and James Reed Franklin.

Graveside Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 at Goldonna Cemetery with Reverends Tim Harris and Jason Womack officiating.

Opal Elizabeth Yung Winser, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 in Vernon, Texas.

Funeral services were celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2020 in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with Deacon David Bindel, officiating. Rite of Committal followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.

Opal was born August 4, 1918 to John and Anna (Grubauer) Yung in Woonsocket, South Dakota. She graduated from Oto High School, Oto, Iowa. She married Ben Winser of Cuero, Texas on March 26, 1942 in San Antonio. During their 71 years together, Opal enjoyed traveling with Ben throughout his military career and many additional trips upon retirement.
