Willard Harry Kenneth Martin

Mr. Willard Harry Kenneth Martin, age 85 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020.

Born Sunday, December 2, 1934 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of First Baptist Church of Calvin. He joined the US Army in 1955 where he completed airborne school and jumpmaster course becoming a senior parachutist. He was a member of the 187th Parachute Regiment and the 8th Infantry Division. He later became a Parachute Rigger and joined the Army Airborne Test Board where he participated in the development and establishment of the first military free fall for the US Army. He finished his military career with the Louisiana National Guard, retiring with 20 years of service with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, James Cecil and Nillie Kitchenham Martin; siblings, Betty Nugent, James, Charles, John, Frank and Robert Martin.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Iris Earline Jones Martin; sons, Kenneth G. Martin and Bobby Edward Martin.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in Beech Creek Cemetery near Winnfield. The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday from 12:00 PM until time of services.

Serving the family as pallbearers were David Nugent, Bill Martin, Martin Paul, Adam Martin, Jacob Martin, Hunter Martin, Collin Martin and Bruce Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Stanley Martin, Tommy Martin, Link Martin and Rickey Harper.
