Mrs. Neather “Nita” Lasyone Jacobs, age 83 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014. Born Thursday, August 06, 1931 in Sikes, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her Father, Jewel R. Lasyone, Mother, Rosie Bratton  Lasyone, Sister, Pauline Vines, Sister, Eunice Taylor, Sister, Patsy Lasyone, Sister, Grace Acreman, Brother, Burel Lasyone and Brother, Pinkey Lasyone. Mrs. Jacobs was a native of Sikes, La and was a Baptist. She retired from Wal-Mart after 30 years of service. Those left to cherish her memory include her Son, Doug Shirley and wife Annie, New Braunfels, TX, Son, Steven D. Shirley and wife Deanna, Huntingtown, MD, Grandchildren, Derek and Jayna Shirley, Huntingtown, MD, Brother, Waylon Lasyone, West Monroe, LA, Brother, Earl Lasyone, Dodson, LA, Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Friends, her extended family of co-workers at Wal-Mart, and her many friends in the community she always greeted with a warm smile and kind words.

 Virgus Ray Cardozier, professor emeritus of higher education administration at the University of Texas at Austin died in Austin, Texas on November 2, 2014 of complications of a stroke.  Professor Cardozier was born on April 2, 1923 and reared on a farm in north central Louisiana, the son of James C. and Lelia Megison Cardozier. He enrolled at LSU in June 1940 where his studies were interrupted in May 1943 when his entire class of advanced ROTC cadets was called to active duty in the Army. Following graduation from the Field Artillery Officer Candidate School at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, he served in the Southwest Pacific Theater. After the war he completed college and taught adult education in Shreveport. In 1949 he returned to LSU to complete a master’s degree, then to Ohio State University where he completed  the Ph.D. in 1952. Later, he completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Michigan and the University of California at Los Angeles.

SHREVEPORT, LA – Dorothy Annette Shaw Lea, beloved wife and mother, went to be with the Lord on November 21,  2014. Funeral services celebrating her life were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Interment was held at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Winn Parish. Officiating were Eric Amison and Harold White.  Dorothy was born in Montgomery, LA on June 13, 1943. She attended Atlanta High School in Winn Parish where she received the American Legion Award and the Crisco Award and graduated in 1961. She also attended Louisiana Girls State. And, in 1963 she graduated from Norton’s Business College. She married Lawrence Lea on April 20, 1963 and celebrated 51 years of marriage this year. She was blessed with two children, one daughter, Melanie and one son, Richard. As a member of Haynes Avenue Baptist Church, Dorothy was a founding member of the Sisterhood group and provided leadership for several years.
