Faith Baptist Church

After congregational hymns, our Sarah sang, “Oceans”. One line in this song says, “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders”. Powerful request. Bro Tommy’s message was titled “Building a good house”. Scripture referenced, Luke 6. These scriptures are about the need to dig deep and find a firm foundation to build a sturdy house upon. If we are wise we make every effort to dig through the useless debris in our own lives, removing the things that lie between us and a firm relationship with Christ. Get rid of pride, prejudices, desires of the flesh. Storms are inevitable. Build your life upon the rock, a firm foundation. Your house will withstand the storms. During our evening service, Bro Tommy again spoke of foundations. Scripture referenced, Deuteronomy 32. Our God is the Rock of our salvation. He gives life, saves us, and is the source of all we need. He is perfect in His work and He finishes what He starts. We are complete in Him.

Winn Parish becomes a leader in Second Amendment Sanctuary

Winn Parish has joined Pointe Coupee Parish as the only two parishes in Louisiana to declare themselves as a Second Amendment Sanctuary and as such will oppose gun control measures enacted by other governmental bodies.

The resolution, offered by Juror Kirk Miles, passed last week. Pointe Coupee (New Roads) passed their resolution on August 10, just four days prior to the Winn Parish Police Jury action.

The only other parish to date that has addressed the second amendment sanctuary parish in Louisiana was in St. Mary Parish (Franklin) but they rejected the measure 10-1. Currently there is a petition in Caddo Parish asking for their parish government to become a Second Amendment Sanctuary.

This movement is a growing trend after Governor John Bel Edwards vetoed a measure that would have allowed residents to “conceal carry” a firearm statewide. The failure by Republicans to override the governor’s veto of the bill, just added fuel to the fire.

Jury to request ARPA funds for parish water systems

The Winn Parish Police Jury could be on the verge of initiating one of the biggest water works projects in parish history thanks to monies from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) that was signed into law March 11 of this year.

At their meeting last week, Jurors authorized their President, Joshua McAllister, to solicit proposals from water systems in Winn Parish for ARPA funds.

“If we are able to get awarded, the Jury will match some funds to help these water projects. This will be the biggest water workover ever to happen in Winn Parish.” McAllister said.

The ARPA package includes $350 billion nationwide in aid for state and local governments, along with additional funding for other areas like education, rental assistance and transit.
