WSHS Tigers lose 4012 to go 32 on the season

The Winnfield Senior High School Tiger Football team lost against Avoyelles 12-40 last Friday.

This marks their second loss in a row after starting the season 3-0 this year.

The Tigers knew this game would be a test to stop a juggernaut, which a few weeks ago put up 86 points against Carroll High School in Monroe.

Before the game Coach Watson said that Avoyelles never punted the ball, always kicked onside kicks, always went for two point conversions and had players that were 6’8 and over 250 pounds.

The Mustangs got started early with rushing touchdowns, failing on one two point conversion but succeeding in another to bring it 14-0 quickly.

In the second quarter Malachi Jackson was able to bring the deficit down to a one score ball game with a 13 yard touchdown pass to Jake Norsworthy, the first passing touchdown the Tigers have had all season.

Winn Parish Police Jury set sights on expansive water system project

Winn Parish Police Jury set sights on expansive water system project

The Winn Parish Police Jury will be making used of a federal program to update local water systems for residents

Anyone in that lives in Louisiana knows that the water that comes from your tap isn’t the most desirable water to drink, and may not even be clear, but an expansive federal project will pour $300 million in Louisiana to fix the water systems in our state. In 2017, the Louisiana Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers gave the state’s drinking water a grade of D-. “Most of Louisiana is small rural towns,” Winn Parish Police Jury President Josh McAllister said. “In the parish we put money into our water systems to just meet compliance guidelines.”

With the new project however, the police jury will be able to use federal dollars to improve water in five different systems, Atlanta Water, Wheeling Water, West Winn Water, Tannehill Water and Pleasant Hill Water.

The Winnfield Senior High School Football Tigers after a promising first three weeks the team were handed their first loss of the year by Red River in a 41-25 showing.

The game plan was to do what had been working the last three weeks, hard nose football, running down the opponents throat and to make plays of defense as they have all season with keeping opposing offenses in check.

Coming into the game Red River had put up scores with a powerhouse offense of 54, 63 and 55, so the Tigers knew they’d have to be an immovable object meeting an unstoppable force.

For the first half of football the immovable object was on top of the showdown, as went into halftime with the lead 17-6 with rushing touchdowns from QB Malachi Jackson and Dyllan Lawson, and kicker Breland Martin nailed a 40 yard field goal and made both extra point. continued on page 2
