It’s going to be A-HEC of a Summer at Winn Parish Medical Center. Five students are participating in this years program. The A-HEC of a Summer program is an exciting opportunity for ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students with at least a 2.0 GPA who are interested in pursuing a healthcare career. These students are given a chance to explore different career opportunities in medicine by volunteering at local hospitals. During the fifteen-day period in June, the students rotate through various hospital departments and job shadow practicing healthcare professionals. They are able to obtain first hand knowledge about a variety of healthcare fields, learn about health issues and patient care, gain CPR certification and practice taking vital signs, attend interactive workshops, and participate in field trips. The program is a state accredited elective course, and students earn ½ unit of high school elective credit upon successful completion of the program.Pictured left to right: Madison Foster, Cadence Gongre, Bella Brumley, Jasmine Jones and Hayden Vines.

(BATON ROUGE, LA) - The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has launched an innovative tool that allows citizens to view what academic goals are being achieved at the state and local levels and how pandemic relief funds are being invested. The LDOE’s new EPIC dashboard (Education Progress and Investment Charts) is the latest tool developed by the LDOE to help stakeholders better understand how schools operate and how students perform.

“Transparency builds trust and this new tool shines light on education outcomes and funding,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “That remains my commitment.”

Sheriff Cranford Jordan says that the TURN vape has a marijuana symbol on it and is legal because of the smaller amount of oil it contains. “Parents need to be aware of this,” stated Jordan. “We’ve talked to the State Police and, yes it is legal, due to the amount it contains”.
