Saturday will be a very busy day for members of the Dugdemona Festival Board as they host TWO exciting events to help celebrate the Mardi Gras season. At noon, vendors will be setting up at the Winn Parish Fairgrounds, with gates opening to the public at 2:30 in the afternoon. Political candidates will check in at 2:30 and at 3:00 they will participate in an old-time political stump, called the “Stewing on the Stump”. At 3:15, BINGO will begin, and the Pet Parade will begin at 3:30.

The Chicken Run will begin at 4:00, which will be followed by a King Cake Eating Contest at 4:30. At 5:00, everyone is invited to gather around as the bon fire is lit. The daytime activities will be full of fun for the entire family, with plenty of kids’ activities and food.

Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Murray’s class from Winnfield Kindergarten School celebrated their 100th day of school on Monday, January 29, 2018. The boys and girls were invited to dress like old people and enjoyed lots of fun 100day activities.

The Winnfield City Council held their first regular meeting of 2018 on Tuesday, January 9th, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Kiah Bevill. Fire Chief Brian Montgomery offered the invocation and all attendees participated in the Pledge of Allegiance.

There were no amendments to the agenda and it was adopted as presented. Councilmember Sarah Junkin read Ordinance 25 of 2017, which amended section 19-7.2 of the code of ordinances. The ordinance would require residents to be financially liable for damage to meters and would give them 90 days to pay the fines if a meter is damaged. A motion to adopt Ordinance 25 of 2017 was made by Ms. Junkin. Councilmember Matt Miller made a second to the motion. The Ordinance was adopted after a unanimous vote by councilmembers.

The Winn Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is excited to announce their 2019 Art Calendar Contest. They would like to compile a calendar that shows the great monthly events and awesome spirit of our parish. All Winn Parish school-aged children are encouraged to use colored pencils, inks, crayons, chalk, etc. and get creative.

The Chamber is asking that our parish children compose and compile their favorite things about each month of the year—things that happen right here in Winn Parish.

On Feb. 3rd, the Dugdemona Festival Board will be hosting their 2nd annual Fais Do Do, which includes an 80’s themed Mardi Pardi for ages 21 and older. Individual tickets for the dance are $10 if purchased in advance, and $15 at the door, with special pricing for groups who purchase tickets in advance.

There will be contests for the best 80s hairstyles, costumes, and more. The festival board also released information about Mardi Gras t-shirt sales last week. The short sleeve t-shirts are $18 and long sleeve tshirts are $22. Orders must by paid by January 19th. To order a Fais Do Do tshirt, contact Ms. Lindlay Howell at (318) 628-0401.
