Mr. & Mrs. Larry Walker of West Monroe, Louisiana and Mr. & Mrs. Chris Leeper of Winnfield, Louisiana are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Lindsay Walker and Austin Leeper. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Durwood Walker of Calhoun, Louisiana and the late Mr. & Mrs. William Mincey of Denham Spring, Louisiana.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is opening a local office in the building that was Courthouse Pharmacy across from the Courthouse according to Desirae Bruce, local administrator. Bruce spoke to the Kiwanis club, Monday, March 28th about the CASA program and the need for an office in Winnfield.

Family, friends, former students and co-workers are invited to attend the 50th wedding anniversary celebration honoring Billy Joe and Doris (Williams) Pendarvis. This golden event will be held in the old sanctuary of the Beulah Baptist Church near Georgetown on Friday, April 15th at 6:30 in the evening. Light refreshments will be served. The CASA program is coming to serve the foster children of Winn Parish and we need your help! CASA is currently looking for community volunteers who are looking to give back to their community by becoming an advocate. CASA Advocates are trained volunteers who are appointed by a judge to advocate for foster children. Advocates visit kids on a regular basis and make recommendations regarding the child’s best interest. The goal is that each child be placed in a safe, permanent home.

Bob Holeman told Winnfield Rotarians he remembers that he was crossing the junior high school yard in Baton Rouge when he heard that John F. Kennedy had been assassinated. When he interviewed World War II veterans, all recalled where they were when they learned that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. All in the room could also go back in their minds to that moment of triumph of man walking on the moon and the national pain of Sept. 11, 2001.
