Local CASA Administrator Desirae Bruce speaks to Kiwanis Club

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is opening a local office in the building that was Courthouse Pharmacy across from the Courthouse according to Desirae Bruce, local administrator. Bruce spoke to the Kiwanis club, Monday, March 28th about the CASA program and the need for an office in Winnfield.

the 50th Wedding Anniversary

Family, friends, former students and co-workers are invited to attend the 50th wedding anniversary celebration honoring Billy Joe and Doris (Williams) Pendarvis. This golden event will be held in the old sanctuary of the Beulah Baptist Church near Georgetown on Friday, April 15th at 6:30 in the evening. Light refreshments will be served. CASA is Coming to Town

The CASA program is coming to serve the foster children of Winn Parish and we need your help! CASA is currently looking for community volunteers who are looking to give back to their community by becoming an advocate. CASA Advocates are trained volunteers who are appointed by a judge to advocate for foster children. Advocates visit kids on a regular basis and make recommendations regarding the child’s best interest. The goal is that each child be placed in a safe, permanent home.

Rotary and the Promise of a Polio-Free World

Bob Holeman told Winnfield Rotarians he remembers that he was crossing the junior high school yard in Baton Rouge when he heard that John F. Kennedy had been assassinated. When he interviewed World War II veterans, all recalled where they were when they learned that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. All in the room could also go back in their minds to that moment of triumph of man walking on the moon and the national pain of Sept. 11, 2001.

Jeff Cox, district judge for Bossier and Webster parishes, was guest speaker at the March 2 meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnfield. He explained that he grew up in a business surrounding and his father instilled in him the desire to save money. He’s brought that into the court system by working to bring resolution to each case as quickly as possible, reducing costs incurred through delay.

Dr. Eric Dupree Shares His Children’s Book with Kiwanis

Local physician Dr. Eric Dupree shared with the Kiwanis club Monday, February 22nd that he has written and had published a children’s book. The title of the book is “The Special Colt”. Dr. Dupree was inspired by his mother who wrote stories but was never published. The story was written in about 30 minutes after hearing a sermon in church about Jesus entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday on a colt that had never been ridden.
