Shelton Participates in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

For the second year in a row, Winnfield Senior High School student MaKayla Elizabeth Shelton was selected to participate in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. MaKayla, along with her mother, Liz Shelton and Kim Williams, traveled to New York over the Thanksgiving holiday for a week filled with fun and excitement touring landmarks around the city and taking in some Broadway shows. On Saturday, MaKayla joined her fellow band members to prepare for their adventure of performing in the parade as the Macy’s Great American Marching Band.

Scarborough Speaks at Recent Kiwanis Meeting

James W. Scarborough was guest speaker for the November 30th Kiwanis club meeting. Mr. Scarborough is a native of Natchitoches. He joined the Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam and Thailand. He worked for Ben Johnson at the Funeral Home in Natchitoches and on April 15, 1975 he opened S&S Flower Shop and Tuxedo Rental. Scarborough also served on the Natchitoches Police Jury. At present in addition to running his business he is President of the East-West Corridor (El Camino Real) Commision.

Kisatchie Quilt Guild Holds November Meeting

The Kisatchie Quilt Guild met on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the First Assembly of God Church. Opening prayer was given by Carolyn Bramlett. Patsy Beaubouef led the pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the October meeting was read by Frances Walker and Billie Ann Bates gave the treasurers report. Nametag check was made and a benevolence report was given.

Red, White and Blue Bows Adorn Memory and Honor Lights Tree

Even though red and green are the traditional Christmas tree colors, this year the Pilot Club of Winnfield will be decorating the Memory and Honor Lights tree in the Winn Parish Courthouse with red bows in honor of a friend or family member, white bows in memory of a loved one or neighbor and blue bows for those special Americans who are serving our country. Pilots and Anchors (the WSHS service club sponsored by the Pilots) will be offering this unique opportunity for Winn Parish residents to give a special gift of thanks with the purchase of the bows decorating the Pilot tree. The bows will have the names of each individual honored.

Kiwanis Club Fruit Sale Underway

The annual Fruit Sale of the Kiwanis club is going on now. Orders are due in by December 3rd and fruit will be delivered December 14th or 15th. The fruit is from River Star Farms and is always good. The fruit includes oranges, grapefruit, apple variety box, clementines, a citrus basket and pears. There are also some combination boxes available. New this year is avacodos. Also available is a wooden gift box with cheese and summer sausage or a 3lb cheese wheel.

DA Nevils Speaks at Recent Kiwanis Meeting

Winn Parish District Attorney Chris Nevils spoke to the Kiwanis club on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015. The good news is that nothing exciting is happening at the DA’s office. They are now settled in their new offices located in the former Winn Parish Library.

Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade set for Dec. 4

The annual Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade, always set for the Friday following the Thanksgiving holiday, will be Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. Entry forms can be found at either Sabine State Bank location as well as Dr. Gaddis’ dental office and the Winn Parish Clerk of Court office. Churches, businesses and schools are encouraged to enter.
