Beautiful Christmas Wedding Unites Couple

The splendor of Christmas at First Baptist Church Winnfield, Louisiana was reflected in the union in Holy Matrimony of Ashley Elizabeth Price, the adopted daughter of the late Larry L. Price and Mrs. Edith Price, to Shawn Michael Nacquin, the son of Ricky and Sandra Nacquin from Mamou, Louisiana. Dr. Jerold McBride officiated the marriage ceremony in the presence of numerous family and friends. The Christmas décor of First Baptist Church was the beautiful background setting of the marriage ceremony. It featured twinkling multi-colored lit Christmas Trees, multiple draping wreaths of red and green, candles surrounded by evergreen branches and a snow machine to complete the winter wonderland dream.

Rotary Club Hears from Kids Matter Too

Winnfield Rotarians heard at their Jan. 20 program about the Grant Parish-centered Kids Matter Too that helps young children Stand Up, Stand Strong and Stand Together. The program that can be viewed online at KidsMatter2.org has a mission to find solutions to problems facing young people. The goal is to help young people cope with and overcome the challenges of daily life by instilling hope and improving their well-being. “The whole idea is to save kids’ lives,” explained Lamar Briggs, a retire law enforcement officer.

WPMG Holds Education Seminar at Town and Country

The Winn Parish Master Gardeners held its first educational seminar of the year at Town and Country here in Winnfield. This was the first of a series of educational series to be hosted by the Winn Parish Master Gardeners and held at Town and Country. The next program will be held, Saturday, February 6, and will cover planting and maintaining fruit trees and roses. For a complete schedule of classes please contact County Agent Donnie Moon or go by Town and Country. ‘There is no charge and the public is warmly invited.

Miller Speaks at Recent Kiwanis Meeting

Jeremy Miller, Manager of Brookshire’s and a Kiwanian spoke to the Kiwanis club Monday, January 11th about the BGC 11th Heroes Flight which took place September 24 – 26, 2015. Miller is also a veteran of Iraq War but these hero flights at the present time are for WWII and Korean War veterans. Miller was one of the guardians on the trip. This Heroes Flight included 22 WWII veterans and 6 Korean War veterans. There were also 18 guardians from BGC including a doctor, pharmacist, photographer and videographer. Jenna Browder and photographer from KNOE, Scott Rogers from the Monroe News Star and American Airlines crew of which 3 were veterans. This was the first time that the veterans were on a chartered flight donated by American Airlines.

AHS JTC & FBLA host Hour of Code

Atlanta High School FBLA and Journey to Careers sponsored the Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week December 7-11, 2015. AHS was one of 198,978 schools around the world that registered to participate in the 2015 International Hour of Code. Over 200 students in first through twelfth grades completed 354 Hour of Code modules during the week. This project started as an assignment for Mr. Mercer’s Journey to Careers class. The JTC class began to study the information technology career cluster after Thanksgiving break. One of the hands on activities for the IT career cluster was for students to complete a beginners coding module. After viewing a promotional video from the Hour of Code, students quickly identified the opportunity to apply the lessons from their Lead2Feed leadership class to create a project to expose all students at our school to computer science.

LSMSA to host Exploration Day for prospective students Jan. 18

Natchitoches, LA – Prospective students and their parents will have an opportunity to learn more about the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts on Monday, Jan. 18, when the school hosts its annual Exploration Day. The event is for eighth to 11th grade students. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the lobby of the High School Building.

Pea Patch Gallery to Host Guest Artist JoAnne Kohara Thompson “ACRYLIC POTPOURRl”

This is JoAnne Thompson’s first solo exhibit in the Pea Patch Gallery. Her exhibit, “Acrylic Potpourri” offers something for everyone - landscapes, still life, florals, and portraits. Although JoAnne has done works in oil, pastels and watercolor, she now paints primarily with acrylics, and currently teaches acrylic painting technique at the River Oaks Square Art Center in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Maxwell And Beavers To Wed

The Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Winnfield recently cooperated with the Winn Parish Library to dedicate the Lawrence I. White Meeting Room at the library at 200 North St. John St.‰ The club purchased a bronze plaque to honor the late Rotarian who had served as president of the Library Board during the planning and construction of the new library, was past president of the local Rotary Club and past district treasurer of Rotary’s north Louisiana District 6190, past president of the University of Louisiana-Monroe Alumni Association Board and supportive of this community through his work as a CPA.
