Winn Parish Library Holds First Plant Swap

On July 26, I had the pleasure to attend my first plant swap. Karla Wroten started the event at the Sikes Branch of the Winn Parish Library several years ago, with great success. Amy Vines, the Library Director welcomed a crowd of about a dozen very excited ladies into the meeting room, where they registered to win door prizes. Angela Wilson, from the Sikes Branch, had transformed the room with plants, fresh flowers and arrangements, reminiscent of a garden party.

Rotarian Chris Nevils

Article Image Alt Text

Rotarian Chris Nevils invited the new Methodist minister Kevin D. Smith to speak at the July 6 meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnfield. Rev. Smith has been a Rotarian in three different towns has also served and served as club president in one. He spoke on the value of being involved in a service organization. He described Rotary as the greatest international service organization, apart from perhaps the body of Christian churches. In his first assignment as a Methodist minister, membership in the local Rotary club was part of the “job description” and a paid membership which included a weekly meal seemed like a winning opportunity. But Rev. Smith told the Winnfield members that he decided for several reasons to remain in Rotary as he moved around. First it offers fellowship and contact with people in each community who are outside of his church circle.
