Lovell receives Quarter Horse Foundation scholarship

Local American Quarter Horse enthusiast, Savannah Lovell, of Winnfield, hasrecently been named as an  American Quarter Horse Foundation Scholarship Recipient. The Foundation’s Scholarship Program awards outstanding members for their dedication to higher education. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, financial need, references  nd participation in equine-related activities.

Winnfield Senior High School Baseball Season WrapUp

The Winnfield Tigers ended the 2015 baseball season in Denham Springs last Friday night against the #1 seed Doyle Tigers. The Tigers valiant effort fell short after Doyle put up 4 runs in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to prevail 7 0. Senior Payton Kepper picked up the loss, giving up 7 runs over 6 innings while striking out 3. Winnfield picked up 4 hits off of the tough pitching staff of Doyle, with sophomores Daulton Clark and Chandler Dantzler, junior Kreston Phelps and Payton Kepper each collecting a hit.

Tigers finish season in first round of playoffs

The Tigers ofLivingston Parish only scoredin two innings, but were ableto pitch around severalWinnfield runners to securethe 7 to 0 victory. The Tigersfinished the season with a 9-13 record and made the 2Aplayoffs for the third straightyear.

The Winnfield Senior HighSchool Lady Tigers made thethree-hour trek to Sulphur,Louisiana last Friday to makea run at the Fastpitch 56 StateTournament. The #11 ranked Tigersfaced #3 St. Thomas Aquinasin the quarterfinals on Friday,which was a breakout day forpitcher Anna Beth Johnson.
