The accompanying group picture recorded the interest in the 1930s in baseball. Harvey O. Myrick is shown third from left (standing) in the back row. The other identifications also bring back warm memories of this active group of sportsmen. The late Arnet Garris is first remembered as the genial clerk at H.A. (Dick) Porter’s Dixie Drug Store before completing his working career atthe Winnfield U.S. Post Office. The late Hervert (Fat) Bass was a former city marshal.It is now hard to recall that the young W. Warren Allen (Sr.) shown herewith as mascot grew up to become a successful business man and a high ranking officer of the prestigious Masonic Lodge piror to his untimely demise. H.F. (Bill) Holstead, the genial manager of this team, now lives on Little River with his second wife, the former and personable Ina Fulton. Volmer (Shorty) Bowen was always clowning but very intent when it came to his game of baseball.

The 12th annual Trista Tyler Scholarship Bass Tournament will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Red River Midway Marina at St. Maurice, La. Cost per 2 man team is $200.00 (includes $10.00 per boat big bass pot). $5,000 is guaranteed for 1st place. 60% pay back on entries–100% pay back on big bass. Number of places paid will be based on total of entries. Boats will leave in the order in which they are registered beginning at safe daylight. Entries are being accepted now c/o James Tyler, 264 Mars Hill Church Road, Atlanta, La. 71404 and will be accepted at the landing beginning at 5:00 a.m. Weigh-in is at 3:00 p.m.
The Winnfield FFA Forestry Team placed 4th in the Central LA FFA Forestry contest. The contest consists of Tree ID, Compass Pacing, Timber Manage ent, Sawlog Estimation, Tool ID and Map Reading. Team members are: Steve Vines-advisor, Morgan Creel, Josh Vines, Tyler Cox and Beau Vines

The 2014 WSHS Tigers were awarded for a strong season at a banquet on Thursday, Jan. 15. Included among those honors were several players who were named to 2-AA All-District, including the young men pictured above.
The Winnfield Tigers traveled to Welsh last Friday for the first round of state 2-A play-offs and they returned with a victory.
The 27th seed Tigers took down the 6th seed Greyhounds 41-34 in a scorching upset. Tigers Head Coach Andy Pyles noted that momentum has been building within the team for a while, and they are peaking at just the right time.
