Admittedly, the global impact of the flood is not the same as what happened at Pearl Harbor but if flood waters entered your home and you had to stand by helplessly and watch your possessions and your memories wash away, the devastation couldn’t be more real to you.

Perhaps it’s because I live on the sunny side of the Mason-Dixon Line that I seem to have gravitated to the southern reaches of several states when it comes to hunting wild turkeys. I’ve taken gobblers from south Florida to South Dakota; south Texas to south Alabama and if I’ve learned one thing, turkeys can be tough hombres no matter the section of the country they inhabit.

Atlanta Bulldogs Fall Short in Overtime at State Semifinals

The 2016 basketball season has come to an end in Winn Parish, with the Atlanta Bulldogs falling short of victory in overtime at last week’s playoff game. The ‘dawgs’ faced Summerfield, the team that would go on to win the State Championship after defeating the Bulldogs 58-50.

Atlanta Girls Basketball Ends Season With Tournament Game in Hammond

The Atlanta Girls Basketball team finished the season last week ranked third in the state. For the first time in 10 years, the girls made it all the way to state but fell short in their first-round game against Pleasant Hill, 65-49, on Tuesday, March 1 in Hammond.

Atlanta Bulldogs Slay Simpson Broncos 5539, Head To Top 28

The Atlanta Bulldogs basketball team defeated the Simpson Broncos 55-39 in Friday’s playoff game. Now, the team heads to Lake Charles to play Summerfield in the Top 28. Second-year head coach Tyler Johnson said he expects to win.

Trista Tyler Scholarship Bass Tournament

The 13th annual Trista Tyler Scholarship Bass Tournament will be held Saturday, April 16 at Red River Midway Marina in St. Maurice, La. The cost per two-man team is $200, which includes $10 per boat big bass pot. The first place prize is $4,000 guaranteed. Pay back on entries is 60 percent – 100 percent pay back on big bass. The number of places paid will be based on the total number of entries. Boats will leave in the order which they are registered beginning at safe daylight. Entries are being accepted now at James Tyler, 264 Mars Hill Church Road, Atlanta, La. 71404. Entries will be accepted at the landing at 5 a.m. the day of the tournament. Weigh-in is at 3 p.m.

WSHS Girls Basketball Falls To Donaldsonville 6362 in Narrow Playoff Game Defeat

The WSHS girls basketball team lost Friday’s playoff game against Donaldsonville 63-62. The narrow defeat brought the end of the team’s 16-game winning streak. “We played well and we played hard,” said head coach Kelli Edwards.
