Winn Ranger District Hosts Fishing Derby

On Saturday, June 11,2016 Kisatchie National Forest and the Winnfield Bass Club will host a Youth Fishing Derby on the Winn Ranger District. The Winn District invites children ages 2-12 to participate in the derby at the Bombing Range Pond, 7 miles west of Winnfield. Check-in will begin at 7:30am with fishing at 8:00am and concluding at approximately 10:00am with an award ceremony for the derby winners.

Enjoying Nature’s Springtime Symphony

For the past several weeks, I have been chasing birds. I brought two of them home with me; beards and spurs are drying on the shelf and meat is in the freezer. I’m a turkey hunter and this is the time of year I look forward to more than any other time. Louisiana’s season ended this past weekend and although it would be fun to chase another gobbler or two, I’m content with what the season afforded me.

The 2016 WSHS Lady Tigers Softball Team played their final game of the season against the Iota Lady Bulldogs Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. The Lady Tigers lost the second-round playoff game 5-3.

Texas Hill Country Sports More Than Turkeys

I am truly blessed as an outdoor writer/broadcaster to get to do some really neat stuff in the outdoors. I get to fish places I wouldn’t ordinarily get to fish; get to hunt in places I’d never go if I weren’t in this profession. Most of the spots I get to visit are offered gratis with the expectation I’ll find something interesting to write or broadcast about.

Trista Tyler Bass Tournament April 16

The 13th annual Trista Tyler Scholarship Bass Tournament will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Red River Midway Marina at St. Maurice, La. Cost per 2 man team is $200.00 (includes $10.00 per boat big bass pot). $4,000 is guaranteed for 1st place. 60% pay back on entries–100% pay back on big bass. Number of places paid will be based on total of entries. Boats will leave in the order in which they are registered beginning at safe daylight.
