Tigers Get Another Win, Put 50 Points On The Board

The Winnfield Senior High School Tigers went on the road Friday with a season record of 3-3, and came home with a win to make their record 4-3. The Avoyelles Mustangs entered the contest with a 2-4 record, and hopes of gaining a win. The Tiger fans drove to Moreauville and were rewarded with a final score of 50-34. When I sat down with Coach Pyles to discuss the game, he said, “The team played the best game of the season on Friday night. We overcame some adversity and I was real pleased with that.  We also had our biggest point total of the year.”

Tigers Take a Trip To Buckeye

Winnfield Tiger fans, who traveled to Buckeye High School on Friday night, were not disappointed! The Tigers came out of their cage and came home with a well-earned 15-9 win over the Panthers. The game got off to a good start, with Senior T.J. Myers making a 78-yard run in the first quarter, which was followed up by a two-point conversion by Senior Justin Pikes. The Tigers defense kept Buckeye from putting any points on the board during the first quarter.

WSHS Cross Country Team Begins Season

The Winnfield Senior High School Cross Country Team started their season on Saturday, Sept. 10 running at the Choudrant Invitational in Ruston. There were over ten teams representing their respected schools in the surrounding area. These athletes competed in the 3 Mile Challenging Course. WSHS had two sophomores finish in the top 15 out of 120 runners. Tyler Hight crossed the finish line in 5th place with teammate Edward Teal finishing 12th over all. All of the kids competed and ran well. They will look to improve their individual times at the next place held in Pineville at the Menard open on Sept. 21.

Tiger Defense Brings Down The Spartans

On Friday night, Stokes Walker Stadium was the setting for the Winnfield Tigers’ second home game and they gave their fans something to cheer about. The Tigers took on the Spartans of Caldwell Parish High School and showed their strength, with a final score of 42-14. Last year Winnfield beat Caldwell Parish with a score of 42-28 in the non-conference game, scoring 28 of their points in the second quarter of the game. The Tigers came into this game with a 1-1 record, after a loss to Many High School and a win over rival Jonesboro-Hodge. Caldwell Parish brought a matching 2016 record, with a loss to Delhi Charter School and a win at LaSalle High School. Coach Pyles said his team would have to bring their best game, and they did.

Good Hunting Outlook For Squirrels And Deer

I glance over at the calendar and see that within two weeks, my focus is about to make a drastic change. I have been helping my wife work on flower beds in our yard and although I emerge from a couple of hours of digging and raking all tired and sweaty, it’s been rewarding. The plants will thank us for our efforts. Kay knows she has to take advantage of my efforts in the flower beds while she can because in a couple of weeks, it’s going to be hard to entice me back to the rake and shovel. Squirrel season kicks off Saturday October 1 and she knows where my attention will be focused.

Pee Wee Flag Football 2016 Registration Extention Final Deadline

The City of Winnfield Recreation Department has extended registration for it’s Flag Football Program. Boys and girls ages 4-12 are eligible for this exciting program. Late registration has been extended until September 23RD. This Will Be The Final Deadline To Register Your Child. Cost is $40.00 per child November. 1st is the age cutoff date. For example: Kids that turn 4 on or before November 1” are eligible for the program, kids that turn 7 on or before November 1 are considered age 7 and play in the 7-9 league, and kids that turn 10 on or before November 1” are considered age 10 and play in the 10-12 league. Don’t Let This Deadline Pass You By.

Winnfield Tigers 11, Looking for Another Win

The Winnfield Tigers hosted the Many Tigers in the Stokes-Walker Stadium on Friday, September 2, and the match up was not what Winnfield was hoping for. Winnfield was coming off a jamboree win of 6-0 against Loyola Prep, while Many High School brought a 28-18 jamboree win over Natchitoches Central High School.
