The Winnfield Senior High School Tigers rolled into Vidalia with hopes for another win to make their record 6-3, and that’s exactly what they did. The Vidalia Vikings brought a season record of 3-6 and high hopes of adding to their win column, but just couldn’t make it happen. When I sat down with Head Coach Andy Pyles, he had good things to say about the team and their efforts. He said that the Tigers gave up two touchdowns; one when the team blew coverage and another was after a blocked

Winnfield Senior High School celebrated homecoming with lots of activities last week. The biggest celebration came on Friday night with the Tigers’ win over Bolton. Bolton High School was welcomed to a spirit‐filled Stokes Walker Stadium, and after a 60 – 6 loss to Peabody last week; the Bears brought a 1 – 6 season record. The Tigers entered the contest, fresh off a 50 – 34 victory over Avoyelles, with a season record of 4 – 3. Bolton had been held scoreless in two games this season, scoring only one touchdown in four of their games, and had only had one game with a doubledigit score. Their only win was over a month ago when they beat Vidalia with a score of 20‐13.

The Winn Parish Enterprise Football Contest is getting heated! Contestants must be doing research and studying the games. No one had a perfect entry for this week, but Mr. Rodney Alderman came the closest with only two incorrect picks. It looks as if Ole Miss and University of Texas-San Antonio let him down on Saturday. Apparently, LSU’s win over Ole Miss came as a surprise to lots of people, since the entries this week were split half and half. Once again, our second place winner was determined by the tiebreaker game of Winnfield vs. Bolton, because we had an 8-way tie.

The Winnfield Senior High School Tigers went on the road Friday with a season record of 3-3, and came home with a win to make their record 4-3. The Avoyelles Mustangs entered the contest with a 2-4 record, and hopes of gaining a win. The Tiger fans drove to Moreauville and were rewarded with a final score of 50-34. When I sat down with Coach Pyles to discuss the game, he said, “The team played the best game of the season on Friday night. We overcame some adversity and I was real pleased with that.  We also had our biggest point total of the year.”  

Winnfield Tiger fans, who traveled to Buckeye High School on Friday night, were not disappointed! The Tigers came out of their cage and came home with a well-earned 15-9 win over the Panthers. The game got off to a good start, with Senior T.J. Myers making a 78-yard run in the first quarter, which was followed up by a two-point conversion by Senior Justin Pikes. The Tigers defense kept Buckeye from putting any points on the board during the first quarter.  

WSHS head football coach Andy Pyles was guest speaker at the Oct. 5 meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnfield where he gave a mid-season report on the Tigers. Pyles is shown with president Jennifer Vidrine and program chair Don Causey.

The Winnfield Senior High School Cross Country Team started their season on Saturday, Sept. 10 running at the Choudrant Invitational in Ruston. There were over ten teams representing their respected schools in the surrounding area. These athletes competed in the 3 Mile Challenging Course. WSHS had two sophomores finish in the top 15 out of 120 runners. Tyler Hight crossed the finish line in 5th place with teammate Edward Teal finishing 12th over all. All of the kids competed and ran well. They will look to improve their individual times at the next place held in Pineville at the Menard open on Sept. 21.
