Stephanie Kay Stipek

Ms. Stephanie Kay Stipek, age 30 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Born Thursday, February 26, 1987 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, she was currently a CNA studying to obtain her RN degree. She was an animal lover, horseback rider, singer and loved the outdoors and most of all, spending time with her family. Stephanie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dale and Ruby Stipek, Eunice Stipek and Michael Tuzzolino. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter, Jaiden Stipek; parents, Joe and Kathy Stipek; brother, Joey Stipek (Tuesdi); and nephew, Jasper Stipek. Darcey Ann Orr

Mrs. Darcey Ann Orr, age 77 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Born Wednesday, March 13, 1940 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Iona Kelly Varnell; grandson, Joseph Max Orr; and brother, \John W. Varnell. Mrs. Orr was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and enjoyed reading her Bible daily. She worked at Calvin High School and was a substitute teacher. Mrs. Orr enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, George M. Orr, Winnfield, LA; son, George Orr, Jr.

Mr. James O. Jurek, age 82 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Born Saturday, January 12, 1935 in Cuero, Texas, he was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Belle Hull Jurek; and wife, Priscilla Jurek. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Sue Duplantis (Steve), Thibodaux, LA; sons, Chuck Jurek, Winnfield, LA, Troy Jurek (Sharona), Winnfield, LA, and Johnny Jurek (Crissy), Thibodaux, LA; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Smithson officiating. Interment followed in Garden of Memories, in Winnfield. John Arthur Huckaby

John Arthur Huckaby, 52, passed away unexpectedly on December 17th, 2017, from a heart attack. A memorial was held on December 21st at the Cedar Creek gym, 2400 Cedar Creek Drive in Ruston, Louisiana, beginning at 6pm. A viewing was held the following morning, December 22nd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints at 205 W Woodhaven Road in Ruston, Louisiana, from 9am to 11am. Funeral services followed at 11am with limited seating available. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield, Louisiana, immediately following the funeral. He was born to Gerald Ray Huckaby and Joan Cummings Huckaby (Reeves) on May 3rd, 1965, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He married his wife Beckie Evans on March 30th, 1989, in the Manti LDS Temple in Manti, Utah. Jay was a loving husband and son, devoted father, a teacher, coach, businessman, close friend, and teammate. Jay never knew a stranger, making friends out of everyone he met.

Mrs. Joyce Morrison Rigdon, age 92 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017. Born Wednesday, March 4, 1925 in Haynesville, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Audie A. and Mrs. Clella Reed Morrison; husband, W. O. Rigdon; brothers, James and Lowell Morrison; sisters, Reva Prince and Hope McClelland; and grandson, Cameron Varnell. Mrs. Rigdon was a retired teller and worked for many years at Bank of Winnfield. She was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church and served as the organist and pianist for many years. Mrs. Rigdon was a member of NAAGQ (National Association for the Advancement of Grandstand Quarterbacks), a group of Louisiana Tech Football players and wives that have remained friends for the years since their college days. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Keith Rigdon (Yvette), Erie, CO; daughter, Laurie R.

Kristyn Nicole Hoffpauir

Kristyn Nicole Hoffpauir, age 15 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017. Born Friday, June 2, 2002 in Shreveport, Louisiana, “Krissy” was a loving God fearing young lady. She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. Krissy was loved by everyone she came in contact with both young and old. She loved all babies and they loved her. She was her daddy’s angel and her mommy’s best friend. She loved horses, hog hunting with her daddy and brother. Her brother was her best friend. She was a rodeo queen and loved her dogs. Her love of God, Family and Rodeo will live on forever. She was a member of Atlanta Baptist Church where she was active in the youth group and Bible Drill program. She was also an active member of the Winn Parish 4-H club, LaSalle, Catahoula, and Winn Parish Riding Clubs, American Auxiliary and volunteered for many community projects. Krissy was a leader in home schooling and all group activities.

James Robert Jones

James Robert Jones, 74, of the Hargis community, passed away Dec. 15, 2017, at Willis Knighton Bossier hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Arrangements are being handled by Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield. The family received friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 18 at Hargis Baptist Church. The funeral service and burial followed at 2:00 pm at the church. James Robert was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Hargis. After graduating from Verda High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Northwestern State University in 1965. He received his Master’s +30 degree from University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1973. Jack’s first year of teaching was at Sulphur High School in Calcasieu Parish for the 1965-66 school year. From 1966-1987, he held several positions at Opelousas High School in St. Landry Parish, including advanced math & science teacher, counselor, and vice-principal.

Rardon Dixon Bevill, III

Rardon Dixon Bevill, III, 79, a longtime resident of Ft. Collins, CO, and formerly of Darien, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 5, 2017 of head and neck cancer. Mr. Bevill was born on February 23, 1938 in Winnfield, LA to Rardon Dixon Bevill, Jr. (affectionate- ly known as Quack) and Susan Ballance Bevill. He was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, TN and Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He later attended the• University of Minnesota where he received a PhD in Biochemistry. Dr. Bevill served in the US Army from 1960 - 1968, where he attained the rank of Captain in the Medical Service Corp. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for Vickers in the early development of medical blood testing machines. In the mid 1970’s, Dr. Bevill shifted careers and became a com- modities broker working for a variety of institutions over 30 years. During his retirement years, he enjoyed working at Ace Hardware.

Mr. David Roger Carter, age 75 of Calvin, Louisiana passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017. Born Thursday, October 8, 1942 in Calvin, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund Wade Carter and Rubye Carpenter Carter; brothers, Charlie Carter and Rickie Carter; granddaughter, Kristen Lonadier. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, David Carter, II (Miranda), Stacy Lonadier (Chris) and Wade Carter (Alisha); special nephew, Anthony Carter; grandchildren, Jared and Emilee Lonadier, Jacie, Mason and Owen Carter and Jewel and Bently Carter. Graveside funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Sanders Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Bates officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Serving the family as pallbearers were Mason Carter, Anthony Carter, Jared Lonadier, Chris Lonadier, Jacob Caskey and Otis Lamar Wall.
