Thomas Roddie Poole, Sr.

Thomas Roddie Poole, Sr. A native of Winnfield and resident of Denham Springs, La. passed away on January 25, 2018 at the age of 88. He was a graduate of Winnfield High School, Class of ‘47 and Northwestern University, Class of ‘51. He retired from the State Legislative Auditors of Louisiana twenty plus years of service. Graveside services were held at Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge, La. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:00am. He is survived by two daughters, Wanda J. Poole, and Beth Poole Jessup and husband David, son, Thomas R. Poole, Jr. and wife Tracey, six grandchildren; Michelle Clark and fiancé Jason Hathaway, Chris Jessup, Rachel Jessup Carr and husband Chad, Lawson Jessup, Camaille Poole, and Zachariah Badon, three great-grandchildren, Lauren Picou, Brian Picou, Jr., and Matthew Picou, and great- great-granddaughter, Zoey Krauss, and brother, Michael Van Poole, Winnfield La.

Leona Sharbono

Mrs. Leona Sharbono, age 86 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Born Thursday, December 3, 1931 in Aloha, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Telie Thompson DuBois; husband, Ted Sharbono, Sr.; sisters, Orie Bee Dauzat and Ola Mae Williams; and brother, Charles and Jr. DuBois. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ted Sharbono, Jr. (Charlotte); son, Eugene Sharbono; son, Willard Sharbono (Amanda); son, Jimbo Sharbono (Nettie); daughter, Anita DeSoto (Rickey); daughter, Mabel Woods (Mike); son, Steve Sharbono (Vicki); 18 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; sisters, Tiny DuBois and Esther Mooty (Harmon); and brother, Buddy DuBois. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Southern Funeral Home, from 9:00 AM until time of services. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev.

Mrs. Eunice Mary Mercer, age 88 of Sikes, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born Monday, March 4, 1929 in Hinton Camp, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington and Vera McNaughton Boyett; husband, Floyd Edward Mercer, grandson, Micah Shane Myers; brothers, Melvin, J.D., Arvel, and Douglas Boyett; and sister, Lilley Mae Ramsey. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Lynda S. Broadway (Steven); grandson, Christopher DuLane Myers; granddaughter, Brandy Lynne Butler; great granddaughter, Harley Brooke Myers Peterson; and brother, Lawson Boyett (Lucille). Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home. Interment followed in Cox- Guin Cemetery, in Winnfield. Mark Frederick

çMr. Mark Frederick, age 60 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018. Born January 9, 1958 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was a member of South Winnfield Baptist Church and was very devoted to his family. Mr. Frederick was preceded in death by his parents Willie E. Frederick, Sr. and Ida Mae Frederick; and brother, Willie E. Frederick, Jr. Those left to cherish his memory include his niece Andrea Frederick-Hymel and husband Clifford; Aunts/Uncles; Floyd Frederick, Leslie and Mary Frederick, Carlotta Frederick; cousin Stacey Frederick and her son Dustin, and sister-in-law Cathy Frederick. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Interment followed in Winnfield City Cemetery. Clifford Hymel, Dustin Frederick, Bruce Crain, Tony Frederick, Shane Frederick, Chad Frederick, and Keith Frederick served as pallbearers.

Joy Nell Walker Rogers

Joy Nell Walker Rogers, age 82 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, February 1st, 2018. Mrs. Rogers was born on June 17, 1935 in Memphis, TN and was lovingly adopted into the union of William Dewey Walker and Arvilla Greene Walker. Joy spent the majority of her life in Winnfield, LA and in 1968 married Roland Rogers. Roland and Joy were married for 47 years until his passing in January 2016. Joy was a stay at home mother to her children for many years until 1985, when she was employed by the Winn Parish School Board in Special Education for 20 years until her retirement in 2005. Joy loved helping children and served in a variety of roles throughout the parish school system. Joy enjoyed cooking, walking, traveling, and spending time with her family, friends, children, grandchildren, and her many pets over the years. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and could always be found watching them play on Sundays in the Fall.

Raymond Samuel Newman

Mr. Raymond Samuel Newman, age 83 of Dermott, Arkansas passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018. Born Sunday, September 23, 1934 in Saint Joseph, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Floy Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Tatum Newman; daughter, Mary Newman; and brothers, J. W., Eugene, and Floyd Newman. Mr. Newman grew up in Newellton, LA, where he graduated from Newellton High School. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dermott, AR. He received a bachelor’s in education from U.A. Monticello, AR, and a master’s degree from ULM in Monroe, LA. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 16 years. He also was a teacher, principal, and superintendent at various school districts across south Arkansas, and later retired from Caddo Hills School District. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Frances G.

Mrs. Julia Faye Green, age 78 of Georgetown, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Born Monday, January 29, 1940 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her father, Julian “Mack” McCartney; mother, Mary Inez Strange McCartney; husband, Donnis A. Green; and brotherin- law, Thomas L. Roberts. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Mary Roberts, sister-in-law, Gloria Barrett (Joe); nephew, Jack Barrett and niece, Susie Lucky. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar Carpenter and Rev. Joe Bruce officiating. Interment followed in Beulah Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Serving the family as pallbearers were Mike Roberts, Richie King, Jack Barrett, Joel Bruce, Johnny Hodges, and Richard Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Barrett, Colby Barrett, and W. C. Hollaway.

Home going Services will be held Saturday February 10, 2018 at Corner Stone Baptist Church 5415 Matlock Rd, Arlington, TX 76018 at 1pm. Viewing will be held at church from 11:30 until 12:30pm. Wake will be held Friday February 9, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Prestige Mortuary 404 E. Broad St. Mansfield, Texas. Peggy Lynn Eagles Wood

Peggy Lynn Eagles Wood died January 13, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Born November 5, 1932 in Winnfield, Louisiana, Peggy was the youngest daughter of Ray and Muriel Eagles. Her older sisters Rabie Reid and Guinivere Allen preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Steve Wood, of San Antonio. As the “baby” of the family, Peggy grew up only slightly older than her sisters’ children. She and her niece Beth Reid Moss grew up almost as sisters, remaining close throughout their lives, as have her other nieces Mary Doherty (Willie) and Amy Allen (Ron Skains). The second generation of nieces and nephews on the Eagles side of the family include Ann Moss James, Reid Moss, John Moss, Danny Doherty (deceased), and Dawn Doherty Johnson. As a girl, Peggy’s best friend was Ann Wood. In 1952, Peggy married Ann’s brother Morris (Buddy) Wood. They were inseparable until his death in 2002. Buddy’s sisters Marylynn and Ann produced a crop of nieces and nephews: Sandra McClane O’Bryan, K.
