Dorothy Neal Stroud

Mrs. Dorothy Neal Stroud, age 88 of Atlanta, Louisiana succumbed after a short illness on Friday, November 24, 2017. She was an active member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church and her community. She loved reading crocheting, canning and gardening. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Stroud was the daughter of the late Orville G. Neal and the late Vonie Shaw Neal and was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Johnnie A. Stroud, as well as her daughter Joy Lynn Stroud Choate. Mrs. Stroud leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Geneva Primm (Bruce) and Sandra McLaren (Bill) all of Atlanta, four grandchildren Joseph McLaren (Melanie), Ben Choate, Anna Katherine Lafitte, and Nicole Odum, five great grandchildren Ethan Buswell (Carmen), Zachary McLaren (Gracie), Austin Miller, Hunter Miller, and Julianna Lafitte. She is also survived by three precious great great-grandchildren Holden Buswell, Emmie Buswell, and Zayden McLaren.

James Bradley “Brad” Southall

Mr. James Bradley “Brad” Southall, age 40 of Tullos passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at University Health LSU in Monroe, Louisiana. Mr. Southall is the son of the late James F. Southall and Evie Cox Southall and is also preceded in death by his grandparents Jessie and Ruby Cox and Charles F. and Margrie Southall, his sister Jeanelle Southall and a niece Amelia Mapp and father in law Carl Wyant. Mr. Southall leaves to cherish his memory his wife Barbara Wyant Southall and children Lakin and Samantha Southall and by his sisters Sandy Wilson, Amy Haworth and Nicky Mapp, mother in law Janice Wyant. He also is survived by a host of nieces and nephews that loved their uncle. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home with Reverends Duane Moreno and James Paul officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.

Joe Jenkins

Joe Jenkins, born 12/10/1935 in Beech Creek Community of eastern Winn Parish died Sunday, November 26th, 2017. He is survived by his wife “Anita” and son “Greg” and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Peters Jenkins, his dad; Clarence Jenkins and brother; Clarence L. Jenkins. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Beech Creek Cemetery in eastern Winn Parish on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Human Society of Southeast Texas.

Howard Ray Moore

Some men defy definition and Howard Ray Moore was one of those men. If you knew Howard you loved him, and if you didn’t, you missed out on someone special. To commemorate such a Patriotic holiday we salute our hero, Mr. Howard Ray Moore. Howard graduated from Pinecrest High School in 1967 and attended Paul Quinn on a full scholarship for basketball. Approaching his junior year of college, Howard was drafted into the U.S. Army. He advanced to sergeant and did a tour of Vietnam. After returning to the states, Howard broke down racial barriers by becoming the first African-American to join the Winn Parish National Guard. While in the National Guard, he worked as a recruiter. Howard left his mark on the world with basic goodness and generosity.

Mr. Mark Randall Brewton, age 43 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Born Monday, December 10, 1973 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his father, Tommy Randall Brewton. Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Vicki Dunn Hubbard (Bubba), Winnfield, LA; brother, Michael Brewton (Mandy), Nacogdoches, TX; step-brothers, Brent Hubbard (Karen), and Jerry Hubbard (Dana), both of Winnfield, LA; niece, Regan Brewton; nephew, Cole Brewton; and the love of his life, Brittany Gardner. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at The Family Church with the Reverends Joel Hines and Steven Smithson officiating.

Glynn Rogers Gorham

Mr. Glynn Rogers Gorham, Born December 17, 1935, passed away November 11, 2017 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born to the late Julius Tyson Gorham and the late Linnie Mae Johns Gorham. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 53 years Margaret “Bud” Finlay Gorham, daughter Julia Gorham Thomas, and great-grandson Christian Blake Richardson. Glynn’s life was filled with many loves. As a teen, he developed a love of music and singing.‹‹His bass voice could be heard in singing groups with family and many friends. He instilled this love and the importance of music in his family until the day he died. Glynn’s legacy can also be seen in bricks that he laid all around Winn Parish and Louisiana. Bricklaying was in his family for generations and his children, in-laws, and grandchildren also learned this trade. Glynn was a loyal servant of God. He led music, taught Sunday school, and was a spiritual leader for his family.

Services for Gene Williams were held at 1 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Hurricane Grove Baptist Church, Sikes, LA with his son, John Williams officiating. Interment was at Hurricane Grove Church Cemetery, Sikes, LA under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria. Gene, 70, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017 at his home. He loved to fish, liked to hunt and love his dog Nimble. He was preceded in death by parents, John and Modie; broth-ers, Parnell, LaVaughn and Billy Williams; sister, Mary McConathy.Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Margie Williams; daughter, Brenda Franks and her children Adam and Justin; son, John and wife Gulnara and his children Savanna and Fawn; daughter, Melinda Carmichael and husband Marvin and children Chase, Jeremy, Michael, John, Chris, Heather, Dustin and Tiffany; sister, Gloria Thompson; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She attendedSpencer Business College andlater graduated from LouisianaState University in BatonRouge. She worked for manyyears at Louisiana StatePenitentiary at Angola whereshe was named Assistant Warden in 1978 until her retirement in1985.Mrs. Gresham was the daughter of the late Wendell Greshamand the late Annie Gay Gresham. She was also preceded indeath by her husband Carl Gresham, son-in-law RaymondWhittington Sr., and a brother John A. Gresham.

Gloria Roberts Lasyone

Mrs. Gloria Roberts Lasyone, 91, of Verda, Louisiana, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. The family had a celebration of life on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Iatt Baptist Church in Verda at 11:00 am. Officiating was Brother Dick DeBusk and Brother Terry Smith. Interment was in Iatt Cemetary in Verda under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Gloria was born in Joyce, Louisiana on May 23, 1926, to Tom and Leona Roberts. She was a graduate of Verda High School. She married the love of her life, Elwood Lasyone, on December 15, 1943. Mrs. Lasyone was a homemaker and enjoyed working on their family farm. She was a faithful member of Iatt Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a godly, Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A prayer warrior and pillar of the community, she impacted many lives during her 91 years.

Mr. John Howard Womack, age 75 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017. Born Wednesday, March 18, 1942 in Sikes, Louisiana, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Womack was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence W. Womack and Ollie V. Head Womack; siblings, Pattie J. Underwood, Glenda J. McDow, Leonard Womack, James D. “Jake” Womack, Henry L. Womack and Marvin Womack. Those left to cherish memory include his wife of 56 years, Annette Carpenter Womack; children, John H. Womack, Jr. (Deborah), Kenneth Womack, Billy Womack (Leshia), Karen Hyde (Ray), Rebecca Crain (Mark), Elizabeth Shelton (Steve) and Paul Womack (Sherry); 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, C.W. Womack, Mary Ellen Moore, Vicky Godsey and Patricia Young. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Southern Funeral Home with Branch President Jay Huckaby officiating.
