Mary Ann Pepper

A memorial service for Mrs. Mary Ann Pepper, age 74, of Sikes was held Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Sikes Baptist Church. Mrs. Pepper passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston. She liked gardening, enjoyed sewing and crocheting, she was an avid yard seller and loved a good deal. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gerald Pepper, Sr; sons, Gerald Pepper, Jr. and wife Tammy, Kenny Pepper and wife Lisa; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Sue Higginbotham; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ida Lee (Maxwell) Walsworth; brothers, Donald Walsworth and Tommy Walsworth; sisters, Dewanna Livingston and Jackie Higginbotham. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Susan B. Komen foundation or charity of your choice.

James “Jim” Spangler

James “Jim” Spangler, a 53 year resident of Torrance, CA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 25, 2017 in Torrance. Born and raised in Joyce, Louisiana, Jim served in the U.S. Navy. While in Long Beach, CA, he met and married his loving wife Lois on January 25, 1964 in Hawthorne, CA. They settled in Torrance where they raised three daughters. Jim retired from Northrop Grumman and loved to spend time with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, cooking and fishing. Jim is survived by wife Lois Ann Spangler, daughters Lisa Prentice (Rick), Bridget Spangler, Stephanie Woolley (Tom), grandchildren Katie Waters and Shane, Grace and Lucy Woolley, sisters Pat Tomasini and Carolyn Sue Alford, brothers Kenneth Spangler and wife Patsy and Gary Spangler and wife Donna. Jim is preceded in death by his parents James and Lena Spangler, sisters Helen Key and Frances Stringer and brother Joseph Spangler.

James Kirby Malloy

Mr. James Kirby Malloy, age 89 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017. Born September 20, 1927 in Winnfield, Louisiana, he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He and his wife owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store of Winnfield for 13 years and The Youth Shop for 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and reading and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Mr. Malloy was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Abrams Malloy; parents, James and Ola Alice Riley Malloy; siblings, Virginia Busby, J.E. Malloy and Inez Lucas. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Aleta Hoffman (Frank) of Dodson; son, Kevin Malloy (Peggy) of Wilson, NC; grandchildren, McKae Booth (Jared), Jason Turner (Misty), Royce Malloy (Katie) and Sassy Malloy; great-grandchildren, Felix, Rowan, Chase, Olive, Alice and Hazel; brother-in-law, Austin Abrams (Vera); numerous nieces and nephews.

Lindy L. Jordan Sr.

Mr. Lindy L. Jordan Sr., age 68 of Tannehill, Louisiana, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 at his residence. He was a native of Winnfield and was retired from the U. S. Forestry Service. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his parents Homer A. Jordan and Jewel Upton Jordan, and by infant twin sons John and James Jordan. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Margaret Poisso Jordan, children Lindy L. “Jr.” Jordan (Tara) of Bossier City, La, Christi Jordan Frieu (David) of Dodson, La., Matt Jordan (Chasity) of Winnfield, La., Matt Poisso (Lisa) of Montesano, Wa., grandchildren T-Dave, Gabrielle, and Aaron Frieu, and Dustin, Cody, and Wyatt Jordan, and one brother Mike Jordan (Becky) of Tannehill, La., Mr. Jordan is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Reverends Wallace Ingles and Tom May officiating.

Mr. Charles Louis Snow, age 89 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Born Saturday, April 28, 1928 in Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Snow; parents, James Ulysses and Lela Maddox Snow; step mother, Jennie Viola Gorham Snow. Funeral services for Carl Baum, age 85, of Columbia, were held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2017 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Dick DeBusk and Bro. Brian Rankin officiating. Interment followed at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield. Carl was born April 12, 1931 to the union of Thomas and Rose Baum in Riverton and he passed from this life on April 11, 2017 at his residence west of Columbia. Carl was in the Army having served his country in the Korean Conflict. He worked for Placid Oil Company for 32 years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Columbia. He loved to travel the country with his wife and his pet, Bandi in their fifth wheel. Their favorite destination was Yellowstone National Park and they both had worked there. He was preceded in death by two sons: Steven Wayne Baum and Mark Thomas Baum; his parents; brothers: R.B., Calvin, Houston Ray, G.A., Huey, Dewey, and James Baum.

Mrs. Marion Lanell “Nell” Frederick, age 82 of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Born Monday, January 07, 1935 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Pizzuto and Hazel Scott Cox; and her husband, Troy Frederick. Mrs. Frederick was a long time member of South Winnfield Baptist Church, where she was pianist for many years. Through the years she baby-sat for many children and was affectionately known as “Mamaw Nell.” Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tim Frederick, Shreveport, LA; daughters, Peggy Vines (Steve), Winnfield, LA and Sharon Grazier (Clint), Spring, TX; 13 grandchildren, Brett Vines, Kristi Newell, Jamie Miller, Trent Vines, Jon Durbin, Lindsey Persson, Dylan Grazier, Christopher Frederick, Sara Richardson, Hannah Frederick, Haley Frederick, Evan Frederick, and Jacob Frederick; 21 great grandchildren; and sister, Tess Frederick, Winnfield, LA.

Mrs. Linda Faye Martin, age 68 of Saline, La. Passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 following a lengthy illness. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was an avid gardener and loved to sew. Funeral services were held Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the church with Reverend Richard Harmon officiating. Mrs. DeLois Knott McCartney, age 90 of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Born Thursday, April 28, 1927 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winnfield and was a long-time manager of Heard Insurance Agency, 1956-98. After retirement, she remained active in the insurance industry and was a member and instructor with the Certified Insurance Counselors of America. Mrs. McCartney was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Willie Mae Bruce Knott; Husband, A.J. “Buck” McCartney. Those left to cherish her memory include her Son, A.J. McCartney, Ph. D.; Sisters, Clydie Mitchell (Ray), Jimmye Holmes (Shove) and Sue Elliot. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Interment followed in Beulah Cemetery, in Marthaville, LA.

Mrs. Vertie Mae (Lawson) Davidson, 81 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday May 17, 2017. She was born June 1, 1935 in Winnfield, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents Matt and Lorena Longino, her husband James O. Lawson, son James K. Lawson, son Michael Lawson, son Russell Lawson, daughter Cheryl Lawson and her sister Brenda Ferrier. Mrs. Davidson was a homemaker famous for her homemade buttermilk biscuits and coconut cake but she will forever be remembered for her tremendous strength and faith. Although she endured more loss than any one person should ever endure, she always showed love and compassion to everyone she knew. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
