Daniel William “Boone” McCarty

Funeral services for Daniel William “Boone” McCarty, Jr., age 70, were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, Louisiana with Rev. Todd Tucker officiating. Burial followed at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. Daniel William “Boone” McCarty, Jr. was born in Columbia on July 20, 1947 to the union of his parents, Daniel McCarty, Sr. and Frances Floweree McCarty. He passed away on September 1, 2017 at his home in Harrisonburg. Boone was an active member of Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church in Jonesville and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran having received the Purple Heart and numerous other medals. Boone was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family, especially his babies. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mary Bess Stroud Todd

Mary Bess Stroud Todd, age 83 of Wheeling, Louisiana, passed away on August 31, 2017. She was born in Wheeling, Louisiana to the late Houston Stroud and Muriel Jones Stroud. Mary was a graduate of Northwestern State University. She started her teaching career in 1955 in Bell City, Louisiana and subsequently taught in Iowa, Louisiana and at Atlanta High School, Atlanta, Louisiana until her retirement. Mary was a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters Kim Henderson (Bill), Lori Dumaine (Mark), four grandchildren and one great granddaughter, and her siblings Jim Stroud, Joe Stroud and Linda Stroud Mason. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Houston Stroud and Muriel Jones Stroud, brother, Robert Stroud, daughter, Toby Todd Svensson and granddaughter, Mary Ingrid Svensson. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Mount Zion Methodist Church in Wheeling, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Maureen Jordan Wise

Mrs. Maureen Jordan Wise, age 68 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017. Born Saturday, October 2, 1948 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her father, Cranford Lee Jordan, Sr. and daughter-in-law, April Wise. Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Peggy Evelyn Henderson Jordan; husband, Gerald Wise; daughter, Shonda Milton (Bo); son, Philip Wise; daughter, Marsha Daugherty (John); grandchildren, Georgia Lee Ann Milton, Mary Jordan Milton, Andie Holliday Milton, Trenton Skylar Downs, Evelyn Grace Ann Sanders, Slade Garrett Sanders, and Crislee Ann Daugherty; and brother, Cranford Lee Jordan, Jr. (Dianne). Graveside services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Garden of Memories, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, with Rev. John Holland officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the charity of your choice.

Burk Fowler

Mr. Burk Fowler, age 92 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017. Born Saturday, September 27, 1924 in Wheeling, Louisiana, he was a member of Atlanta Baptist Church where he served as deacon, and was also a 50 year member of Montgomery Lodge No. 168 F&AM. He was an avid fisherman of white perch and bream, enjoyed gardening and spending time with family as well as his Masonic fellowship. Mr. Fowler was a US Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Andrews Fowler; parents, Frank and Hester Lee Stroud Fowler; brothers, Buford Fowler and Arvil Fowler Sr.; and son-in-law, Fabian Geisman, and a great-great-granddaughter Korlyn Chiasson.

A.D. Rowell, 86, was born on May 27, 1931 in Calvin, LA and passed away on August 12,2017 in Shreveport, LA at Willis Knighton Pierremont. The memorial service was held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 7000 Glen Leaf Road, Shreveport, LA.A.D. was the owner of Beauty Queen Cabinets, Inc. He had many faithful and loyal employees. Later he worked for Union National Life Insurance and retired from there in 1996.He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Martha Obera Nichols Rowell; brothers, Gary Rowell and Gerald Rowell; Sister Exermae Richards. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Sue Adams Rowell; Brothers, J.E. Rowell (Jo Ann), Glen Rowell (Earline); sister, Elsie Gieger; sister in law, Betty Rowell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A.D. was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 1, 1951 and has served as an elder in the congregation for many years.

She is survived by her son, Rusty Johnson and wife Caroline of Tulsa, and daughter-in-law Darlene Johnson of San Diego, California; grandchildren and spouses, Julia and Steve Mayer of Fair Oaks, California, Jennifer and Jon Parrish of Washington D.C., Jeffrey Johnson of Lake Oswege, Oregon, Ben Johnson and Maryann Hon of Tulsa; and three great grandchildren, Emily and Ava Parrish and Jevin Johnson. Other survivors include niece, Helen Lynn Bankston of Winnfield, and nephew, Jerry Drewett of Ruston. She is preceded in death by husband Julius Johnson and son Jeffrey Johnson. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Drewett, Sr.; sister Pauline Drewett LaCroix; brothers, A.T. Drewett Jr. of Winnfield and Colvin Drewett of Ruston. Memorial services will be held in Winnfield.

Born Saturday, June 24, 2017 in Alexandria, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Pamela Renae Stewart. Those left to cherish her memory include her parents, Ethan and Angela Smith Stewart of Goldonna; sister, Alaina Stewart; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Sandi Freeman and Steve Smith; paternal grandfather, Dave Stewart; maternal great-grandparents, Walter Daniel and Geraldine Schmutz and Jim and Charlene Smith; paternal great-grandparents, Arnold and Carolyn Bedgood and Tom and Martha Stewart. Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Goldonna Assembly of God with Rev. Shaun Garner officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, in Goldonna under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Serving as pallbearers were Travis Braswell and Daniel Kirkham.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, John Aldy (Terry), Rison, AR; daughters, Dana Thomas (Chris), Shreveport, LA and DeLinda Cockerham (Ross), Calvin, LA; 7 Grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dillon, Justin, Ricky, Tray, Olivia, and Tanner; and 4 great grandchildren, Caylee, Jase, Anna, Braison; brothers, Bruce and Ricky Blake; and sister, Patty Spillman. Charles Jefferson Griffin

Mr. Charles Jefferson Griffin, age 74 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Born Sunday, May 2, 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana, he was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School teacher and much more. He was a hard worker who took care of his family and who also helped others in need. He further demonstrated his servant heart by caring for many widows in the community by mowing their yards. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Harold and Bonnie Essie Harris Griffin; siblings, James Griffin, Glenda Sue Thompson and Mary Williams. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Glenda King Griffin; Son, Pedro Griffin (Christina); daughter, Sissy Cook (Rhodney); grandchildren, Kyle Griffin, Kaitlyn Purvis (Justin), Kaleb Griffin and Karlee Griffin; great granddaughter, Tinsley Renea Purvis.
