Theresa Janette Weeks Peterson was born on Thursday, April 14,1938, in Gansville, LA to the union of James Faxon and Leola Harris Weeks. Maternal grandparents were James Nash “Jim” and Ella Effie Rhymes Harris, and paternal grandparents were Wiseman Everett and Ethie Lindy Rushing Weeks. She passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 after a brief illness.

Growing up, she was very active in her church, having accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. As a teenager, she felt the call to home missions. Theresa attended Dodson High School and graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1956.

Mr. James William Parker, age 79 of Sikes, Louisiana, passed away July 1, 2019 at the Alexandria Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pineville, Louisiana.

Mr. Parker was a native of Rodessa, Louisiana and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was also a member of Charles F. Buck Lodge No. 260, Free & Accepted Masons in Urania.

Mr. Parker, after graduation from Louisiana Tech University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, went to work for the City of Alexandria in 1972 in the distribution department as an electrical engineer. In January of 1975 James and his wife went to ARAMCO in Dhrahan, Saudia Arabia where his employement took him to various projects in other countries. He and his wife, after traveling for work decided that there was no place like the U.S.A. In August 1980 he went to work for Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas

In May of 1983 he went to work for Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Plant in Sherman, Texas where he worked until retirement in January of 1996

Mrs. Peggy Evelyn Henderson Jordan, 91, a life-long resident of Winnfield, passed away at her home on June 28,2019.

Peggy was born November 28, 1927, in Winnfield to the late E.L. and Fannie Farrell Henderson. She graduated from Winnfield High School in 1944 and later married Cranford L. Jordan, Sr. on September 22, 1945. At the age of 50, after a very successful career with Stanley Home Products,

Peggy decided to pursue a nursing degree at Louisiana State University in Alexandria, where she graduated at the top of her class.

With her nursing degree accomplished, Peggy was ready for the next challenge. Always having a heart for serving others and a mind for business, she and her two children opened Winn Home Health Care in 1986 where she served as director of nurses until her retirement at the age of 85.

Dolly Imogene Russell Jones, age 88 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and loved fishing, gardening and cooking. She was well known for making a “mean pot of chicken dumplings” She worked in the cafeteria at the Winnfield Middle School for several years.

Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Clarence Franklin Russell and the late Sarah Brown Russell. She was also preceded in death by her husband Willis “Dick” Jones, brothers Lester, Red and Charles Russell, sisters Elsie Howell, and Glenda Rodriguez as well as her great grandson Caleb Jones.

Survivors include children Nelda Klusman (Michael), William Jones (Diane), Elaine Hawkins, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory four sisters Earline Baker, Pauline Hirsch, Lois Howes, and Judy Sanders.

Mr. Tracy Lee Harrel, Jr., age 89 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019.

A life-long resident of Winnfield, he was born Friday, March 14, 1930 and was a 1947 graduate of Winnfield High School where he was quarterback on the football team. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1950-1954. He was a member of the 10th Infantry Special Forces as a paratrooper, formerly known as the Green Berets. Upon being discharged from his military service, he then returned to Winnfield to join his father, Tracy L. Harrel, Sr. as part owner of Harrel Builders Supply Company, Inc. where he remained until his retirement in 2007.

Mrs. Nellie Earline Usrey Gonzalez, age 87 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

Born Thursday, October 29, 1931 in Sikes, Louisiana, she was a retired education administrator.

Mrs. Gonzalez was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Ansel Usrey and Nellie Mae Gulledge Usrey; husband, Rev. Clarence Gerald Fuller, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Vincent Gonzalez; children, Linda Genella (Chuck), James Fuller (Melanie) and Deborah Hurley; grandchildren, Cory Handy, Charlie Genella, Emily Fuller, Sam Fuller, Jessica Aguilar and Samantha Tejada; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Miller, Jack, Kate, Isabelle, Liam and Jaxon; sister, June Melton (Ronnie).

A private celebration of remembrance will be held at a later date.

Mr. Danny Glyn Carter, age 67 of Calvin, Louisiana passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019.

Known as “Skillet” to his friends, he was born February 8, 1952 in Winnfield, Louisiana, and was a retired log cutter and member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Lee Carter, Jr. and Lola Cockerham Carter.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Marsha Smith Carter; children, Lane Carter and Jessica Murray (Brent); grandchildren, Ethan Boone and Lathan Snowden; siblings, Donald L. Carter, Vickie Robertson and Pamela Procell.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Malone and Rev. Bobby Bates officiating. Interment followed in Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
