Mrs. Peggy Evelyn Henderson Jordan, 91, a life-long resident of Winnfield, passed away at her home on June 28,2019.

Peggy was born November 28, 1927, in Winnfield to the late E.L. and Fannie Farrell Henderson. She graduated from Winnfield High School in 1944 and later married Cranford L. Jordan, Sr. on September 22, 1945. At the age of 50, after a very successful career with Stanley Home Products,

Peggy decided to pursue a nursing degree at Louisiana State University in Alexandria, where she graduated at the top of her class.

With her nursing degree accomplished, Peggy was ready for the next challenge. Always having a heart for serving others and a mind for business, she and her two children opened Winn Home Health Care in 1986 where she served as director of nurses until her retirement at the age of 85.

Peggy enjoyed life with a personality all her own. She loved her family and took great pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years. A true philanthropist, Peggy delighted in helping anyone in need. She spent much of her time delivering food and gifts. She truly loved any opportunity to serve others and did so to the fullest.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Cranford L. Jordan, Sr; daughter, Maureen Jordan Wise; and brothers, James E. “Bill” Henderson, Kenneth W. “Jack” Henderson, Kendall Henderson, and Lyndon M. “Judge” Henderson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Cranford L. Jordan, Jr. (Dianne); son-in-law, Gerald Wise; grandchildren, Shonda Milton (Bo), Philip Wise, Marsha Daugherty (John), Christopher Jordan, and Hannah Jordan; great-grandchildren, Georgia Lee Ann Milton, Mary Jordan Milton, Andie Holliday Milton, Trenton Skylar Downs, Evelyn Grace Sanders, Slade Garrett Sanders, and Crislee Ann Daugherty; sister-in-law, Joyce Henderson; nieces and nephews, and a very special friend she called her other son, Leroy James.

Loving care was provided to her by her dedicated caregivers: Anita, Ieshlia, Karen, Murl, Sandra, Vivian, and her dear friend Beckie.

Visitation was held on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Southern Funeral Home from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m, and on Sunday, July 7, at the church from 1:00 PM until service time. Service was held on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Winnfield. Service was conducted by John Holland, First Baptist Church Minister of Music and Senior Adults.

Serving the family as pallbearers were: John Daugherty, Harry Foster, Tommy Henderson, Johnny Lovell, Bo Milton, and Wayne Smith.

Serving the family as honorary pallbearers were: Dwight Callender, Don Causey, Jacque Derr, Paul Harlan, John Higginbotham, M.G. Perry, and Sidney “Bud” Walton.
