Barron Jewell Vines

Mr. Barron Jewell Vines left this world on January 29, 2021. He was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church of Dodson, Louisiana. He very much enjoyed his time with family and certainly his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters Rebekah Johns-husband Robert, Melissa Coussan-husband Matthew, his four grandchildren Marian, Morgan, Matelyn, and Mason Coussan, one brother B. L. Vines, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Alice Faye Vines, infant daughter Candace Vines, parents L.E. and Pauline Lasyone Vines, siblings Jerry Vines, Sammie Fowler, Loyd Vines, and Patsy Hemphill.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeff Hemphill, Darin Hemphill, Quinn Hemphill, Kaleb Hemphill, Benny Vines, and Murphy Chestnut.

The family received friends at Southern Funeral Home on Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Max Allen Orr

Max Allen Orr

Mr. Max Allen Orr, age 61 of Urania, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021.

Born Monday, January 18, 1960 in Pineville, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Darcey Ann Varnell Orr and George Orr; and son, Joseph Max Orr.

Max was an avid fisherman and a huge fan of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles.

Those left to cherish memory include his sisters, Debra Wooten (Johnny), Annette Cockerham (Steven), Sandra Orr Vanderwater (Emmett) and Karen Norris (Bobby); and brothers, George Orr, Jr. (Elise) and Jamie Orr.

The family received friends on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Southern Funeal Home, from 10:00 AM time of services.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Montgomery officiating. Interment ed in Sanders Chapel Cemetery, in Calvin.

David G. Bryant

David G. Bryant

A service to honor the life of Mr. David G. Bryant was held at 11 am Tuesday, January 26, 2021, in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in the Oak Grove Community in Natchitoches, LA.

David, 81 years of age and a resident of Natchitoches, passed away on January 23, 2021, in Alexandria, LA. He was born on December 18, 1939 to Jesse Lee Bryant and Addie Lou Gotlin Bryant in Hargis, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, David Bryant; and his siblings, Bessie Young, Hershel Bryant and Dub Bryant.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who always put the needs of his family before his own. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Frances Prescott White

Frances Prescott White, age 46 of Cordova, Tennessee completed God’s plan for her life on Saturday, January 23, 2021 after a brief illness.

Frances was born June 30, 1974 in Oxford, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her father: John David Melton and an unborn son.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of almost 20 years, Joseph White: her children Brian and Brianna White all of Cordova, Tennessee. Her mother, Betty Costilow and significant other John of Duckhill, Mississippi. Her parents in-law: Jimmy and Karen White of Winnfield, Louisiana. One brother, Philip Knickel of Mississippi. Sibling-in-laws, Jennifer (Brad) Watts of Carrollton, Mississippi, Jodie (Paul) Busha of Winnfield, Louisiana. One nephew, Tyler Watts of Brandon, Mississippi; Two nieces: Olivia and Blakelyn Busha of Winnfield, Louisiana. As well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and day care babies.

James L. Hinckley, Jr.

James L. Hinckley, Jr., age 71 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Born Sunday, June 19, 1949 in Alexandria, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his father, James L Hinckley, Sr.

Mr. Hinckley was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve. Mr. Hinckley worked as a controller at Tremont Lumber Mill but was most proud of his work as administrator for the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home (OWL Center).

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Vivian Panzigrau Hinckley; mother, Joyce Cardwell Lofton; daughter, Jennifer Vidrine (Blake), grandchildren, Samuel, Sylvia and Marcie Vidrine; sister, Janice Stroud (Gary) and brother, Justin Hinckley (Jeanette).

Billy Choate

Mr. Billy Choate passed from this life on Wednesday, January 20,2021. Mr. Billy spent his working career in the timber industry where he would later retire from. In 1977 he received a kidney transplant, which was donated by his brother Scooter. Mr. Billy was the longest living individual receiving a transplant of some 43 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he has gained throughout a lifetime.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three brothers Tony, Scooter, and Tommy Len Choates, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur Kennedy and Virginia Maxine Choate, and one sister Joy Choate Folden.

The family received friends at Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 12 noon until 2PM. Inurnment will take place at a later time privately by the family.

Earlene Long Boyett

Mrs. Earlene Long Boyett, age 90 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021.

Born Thursday, April 17, 1930 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was the last surviving charter member of The Family Church. She managed the Morgan and Lindsey store in Winnfield until it closed. Later, she worked at P&M Plumbing until retirement. She was a pastor’s wife and supported her husband’s ministry throughout northcentral Louisiana. She loved growing tropical house plants and over two hundred plants in her home.

Mrs. Boyett was preceded in death by her parents, Earl E. Long, Sr. and Edrye Simms Long; grandparents, Joe E. and Alice Smith Long and Holden and Jeannie Jeffus Simms; husband, Rev. Daniel George Boyett; son, Daniel Earl “Danny” Boyett; sisters, Virginia Long Rolen and Gracie Long Vargas.

Mrs. Sue Jones Lowe

Mrs. Sue Jones Lowe, age 73 of Calvin, Louisiana passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021.

Born Wednesday, March 5, 1947 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Selma Keene Jones; daughter, Susan Lowe Stiles; sisters, Margie Franks and Thelma Billeau; niece, Patricia.

Sue was a woman of quick wit and sarcasm. Behind her subtle smile, she was full of sass. If you had a conversation with her, you could trust that she would always tell you how she really thinks. She was full of deep love for her family. She was a great role model as a faithful wife and a devoted mother.

Sue had a place in her community. She stood beside her husband in business at Lowe’s Grocery Store. She was a member of Calvin Baptist Church and also served as a substitute teacher and was loved by the students.

Martha Lowe Killian

Martha Lowe Killian, daughter of Herschel and Ruth Lowe, was born and raised in Calvin Louisiana, Martha passed away 10th January 2021 aged 82 in her hometown of Alexandria. Survived by brother Milam, sisters Mary Ann and Melinda. Martha was a graduate of Calvin High School and Northwestern University, where she earned a degree in education. As a teacher she worked in parishes around north Louisiana. Martha understood the worth of every student that crossed her path, education, a life passion projected into her great grandchildren.

Beside her brother and sisters, Martha is survived by her children Denese and husband Allen; Robbie and wife Kelly; and Renee and fiancé Tony; five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Amy Gail Allen

“Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever because the Word of God is alive and powerful.”

The family of Amy Gail Allen, age 77, a native of Winnfield but a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, is now celebrating Amy’s transition to heaven at 5 pm on January 9, 2021. A memorial service, Lord willing, is being held on Friday, Jan. 22, at 12 Noon at the Presbyterian Church in Winnfield.
