Carolyn Fay Hudson Phillips

Mrs. Carolyn Fay Hudson Phillips, age 75 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Born Tuesday, August 24, 1943 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Cavanaugh Hudson and Wilson Homer Hudson; husband, James D. Phillips; brother, Bill Hudson; and 2 great grandchildren, Reagan and Riley Hall. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Tony M. Lacaze and wife, Sharon, and Kenneth W. Lacaze; and sisters, Sybil Cupp, Barbara Austin, Doris Blake and Joyce Holley; 3 grandchildren, Brittni, Breana, and Logan Lacaze and 4 great grandchildren; and step children, Elizabeth Phillips Woods, Donna Winemiller, Billy Phillips, and Rodney Phillips. Billy Weston Carter

Billy Weston Carter passed away at his home in Natchitoches, LA on October 21, 2018, at the age of 81. He was born October 17, 1937, in Winnfield, LA where he lived with his family of six until he left to attend Southwestern University, now the University of Louisiana Lafayette, and University of Texas Austin. He left the university in 1958 to join the Air Force where he pursued a career as a Veterinary Technician in the USAF Aerospace Medicine program. During his time in the USAF, he notably worked for NASA as a vet technician with the monkeys to be sent into space. Over the years he proudly worked as a skilled butcher, trained to be a Ferrier, and owned his own cattle company before ultimately retiring after working over 20 years as a warehouse manager in the Oil & Gas industry. A born story-teller and old-fashioned cowboy, he shared endless stories of his love of rodeo and horsemanship, as well as his family history in Winn Parish. He was a loyal friend and loved by many.

Kathryn Nugent Roberts

Kathryn Nugent Roberts, 64, of Winnfield, passed from this life on October 21, 2018, at her home. She was a retired registered nurse, who spent her career working for Hardtner Medical Center and for twelve years at Rapides Home Health where she not only provided care for her patients but genuinely cared for them as well. First and foremost, she was a wife and mother who loved her family. To her family and friends, she was simply “Kathy.” She was a 1972 graduate of LaSalle High School and received her degree in Nursing from LSU at Alexandria in 1982. The oldest of five children, she was born April 4, 1954, and grew up in Urania, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Aline Nugent of Urania. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Mike Roberts; her sons, Kurt Boyd of San Diego, California, Kyle Boyd and Andrew Roberts and his wife Terri, all¤of Winnfield, and her daughters, Andrea Roberts and Chelsea Roberts.

Lois Elaine Greer Carpenter

Mrs. Lois Elaine Greer Carpenter, age 78 of Campti, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018. She was a member of United Baptist Church of Campti. Born Sunday, September 1, 1940 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Exie Olivia Greer; husband, Bobby Carpenter; daughter, Cynthia King; sister, Gwen Cheatwood. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Patty Sorenson and Rhonda Barnhill (Ed); 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; niece, Cynthia Jones (Mason). Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Mitchell White

Mrs. Mary Mitchell White, age 72 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018. Born Thursday, April 4, 1946 in Winnfield, she was a member of United Baptist Church and more recently attended The Family Church. She was also employed with Brenda’s Chicken Inn. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Madeline Horn Mitchell; husband, Carl White; grandsons, Zachery and Jeremiah McDuff. Those left to cherish his memory include her daughter, Teresa White; son, John White; sisters, Dorothy Young and LaVerne Wise; grandchildren, Caitlin and Robbie; great-grandchildren, Caiden, Avery and Jordan. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Hines officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Wheeling.

Billie J. Southern

Mrs. Billie J. Southern, age 88 of Castor, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Ray L. Southern; her children, Mike Collinsworth, Barry Collinsworth and wife Betty, Sandy Keiffer and husband Clifton, Debbie Keiffer and husband Harvey; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ben Collinsworth; daughter, Linda Collinsworth Hawkins; granddaughter, April Collinsworth; great-great grandson, Chandler Wise; parents, Doss Elmer and Minnie Lou (Toms) Caskey. Friends visited with the family on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 11:00AM- 2:00PM at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services followed at 2:00PM with Reverends Jerry Martin and James Lovell officiating. Interment was in Pine Ridge Cemetery near Goldonna under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Mrs. Irine Ashley, age 84 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Born Saturday, March 17, 1934 in Winnsboro, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Hudson Franks and Hubert Perry Franks; husband, James Ashley; and brother, W. H. Franks. Mrs. Ashley enjoyed being outside working in her flower beds, cooking and walking. She loved her family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Connie Ashley; sons, Alvin, Eddie (Jerri), Woody (Lynn), Pat, and Chris Ashley; grandchildren, Gary (Natasha), April, Kevin, Payton, Summer, Bryce, and Leah; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lea Glass; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends., The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Southern Funeral Home, from 12:00 PM until time of services. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Spikes and Rev.

Mr. Albert Michael “Mike” Cockerham, age 70, of Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018. Born Thursday, December 4, 1947, in Winnfield, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield and was a graduate of Northwestern State University with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and gardening, but above all, he most enjoyed helping other people. Mr. Cockerham was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Howard and Clara Rachel Carpenter Cockerham; first wife, Janice Richards Cockerham; siblings, Howard Cockerham, Frances Williams and Cathy Franks; nephew, Roger D. Lowery.

Ruth “Janell” Beardsley

Ruth “Janell” Beardsley, formerly of Strandburg Ave. passed away (Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018) at the Pines in Machias. Born March 23, 1934 in Sikes, Louisiana, she was the daughter of William and Mary Brister Willis. In 1994 in Warsaw, NY she married David Beardsley who survives. Mrs. Beardsley was a graduated of Sikes High School, and was employed by Merrill-Lynch Brokerage Firm in Buffalo, she later worked at Mallory Inc. of Warsaw, NY, where she made her home for 38 years. Ruth enjoyed gospel singing, recording her own music, working in the yard and flowers. Surviving besides her husband are 2 daughters Lisa Schwab of Erie, PA, Linda (Duane) Edmunds of Pittsford, NY, a son Richard (Kimberly) Schwab of Pike, NY, 2 grandsons, Adam and Hayden Schwab, a brother John Willis of Boser City, LA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters. Friends gathered with the family on Thursday (Sept. 27, 2018) at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home 7 N. Main St.
