Mr. Alen R. Coolman, Jr. “(Half Pint), age 64 of Montgomery, Louisiana passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019.

Alen was born March 8, 1954 to Alen, Sr. and Cecile Gongre Coolman. He became a jockey at a young age, winning many titles. Alen spent many years driving a log got .

loved hunting. The biggest and most important part of his world were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To say he loved them was an understatement.

Alen was preceded in death by his parents, Alen Coolman, Sr. and Cecile Gongre Coolman; sisters, Carolyn Sue Carter and Katherine Coolman Mount, and granddaughter, Alexis Coolman.

Vera Robertson - Abrams

Mrs. Vera Robertson - Abrams, 81 of Dodson, La. passed away at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Winnfield on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Revs. Ed Smith, Jessie Henderson and Bobby Bates officiating. Interment followed in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Dodson.

Mrs. Robertson - Abrams was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. Previously attended Harmony Grove Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Sikes High School in 1955. Received a B.A. degree in education at NSU and a Masters degree in education from Troy State. She had taught school at Caldwell Parish, Winnfield Middle School and various schools in Georgia. Mrs. Robertson - Abrams was a pastor’s wife for 54 years.

R. T. “Tommy” Cambell, age 57 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019. He was an employee at 6C Fabrication, attended The Family Church of Winnfield and was a graduate of Winnfield Sr. High School in 1980. Mr. Campbell went to LSU on full scholarship where he received a B.A. in Business and Marketing. He played football at LSU from 1980 to 1985.

Born Friday, April 14, 1961 in Freeport, Texas, he was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Thomas Campbell, II; mother, Jennie Miller Campbell; and sister, Suzy Campbell

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karla Mayes Campbell; daughter, Ashlynn Olivia; sisters, Margie, Brenda Sue, Mary Kay; brother, Jeffrey; and one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley Branch Brantley

Mrs. Shirley Branch Brantley, age 82 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Born Thursday, September 3, 1936 in Winnfield, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Alon and Ollie Jordan Brantley; husband, Weyman R. Brantley; brothers, Garland and Donald Branch. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kim L. Brantley; son-in-law, William G. Kelley; cousins, Cranford Jordan, Junior Branch, Janis Eaves, Pat Brewer, Scooter Yancey, Scott Yancey and Patrick Yancey.

Mrs. Brantley retired from the City of Winnfield purchasing department. She was a co-pilot on her daughter’s motorcycle, loved roller coasters, the bigger the better, and barrel raced in her younger days.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Jones officiating. Interment followed in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Dodson.

Teresa R. Johnson Gatlin

Mrs. Teresa R. Johnson Gatlin, age 54 of Ruston, Louisiana passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018.

Born Saturday, September 19, 1964 in Winnfield, she was a member of Antioch Community Church and was a retired hairdresser.

Teresa was preceded in death by her father, Charles Johnson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Clinton H. Gatlin, Jr.; mother, Dorothy Lee Gorham Johnson; daughters, Brandi Gatlin and Brittany Gatlin; brothers, Chuck Johnson, Jr., Steven Lynn Johnson and Stacy Johnson; grandson, Christian Conley; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at First Assembly of God Church of Winnfield with Reverends Hayward Hossler and Mike Howell officiating. Interment followed in Bethlehem Cemetery, in Calvin under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rison was the owner and operator of a house painting business and a member of Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA.

Funeral Services for Jeffery Alan Whatley of Winnfield, LA were held at 10 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at Family Church of Winnfield LA, 1806 Maple St 71483. Revs. Joel Hines and Brian Montgomery officiated, with Russell Jones as a special speaker. Internment was at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation was 4pm to 9pm Thursday December 27, 2018 at the Family Church of Winnfield.

Jeffery Alan Whatley was born on May 31, 1962 and left this world on December 21, 2018 at the age of 56 in the Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, LA.

He is Preceded in death by his father, Ronald Whatley; stepfather, Loyd Murphy; and grandparents, Ada and Thomas J. Foster.

Eloise Canerday James

Mrs. Eloise Canerday James, age 90, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 after a very short illness.

Mrs. James was known to many as a sweet fiesty southern lady with style. She and husband, Melvin, owned and operated the White House Grocery for many years. She loved to play Rook, dominoes and loved to dance. She was a member of Laurel Heights Baptist Church. She loved her family but most of all she was a God fearing woman.

Born May 3,1928, Mrs. James was preceded in death by her parents, Presley and Lucille Canerday of Calvin, Louisiana. Her one love, Melvin James in 1987 and her youngest daughter, Susie James Ashley earlier this year.
