Two millage renewals on Nov. 4 ballot

In addition to the election of U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative and fourteen Louisiana constitutional amendments, two parish
renewals will be on the ballot in Winn on Nov. 4. The renewals, which are voted on every five years, are for the management of the Winn Parish Library and the upkeep of roads and bridges in the parish by the Winn Parish Police Jury.

Fair discount results in food donation

The Winn Parish Fair allowed for visitors to take a discount off of their wristband purchases if three cans of food were donated at the gate. Many patrons took advantage of that deal. On Thursday, Oct. 2, Kirk Miles (of the Winn Parish Fair Board) delivered several large bags filled with cans that were collected at the fair to the Winn Food Pantry at the First Presbyterian Church in Winnfield. Pictured are food pantry volunteers Brenda Kelley and Sue Adams, and Miles, holding just a portion of the donation received.

Monday is deadline to register to vote

The deadline to register to vote in time for the upcoming  Nov. 4 election is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6. Fourteen Louisiana constitutional amendments will be on the ballot, as well as candidates for United States Senator and Representative, as well as several local elections

Tigers celebrated in sendoff

The Winnfield Senior High School Tigers received a celebrated send-off when they departed from Stokes-Walker stadium to travel to Leesville on Friday, Sept. 26. Several groups of Tiger fans gathered along Highway 167 to wave to the bus carrying the home team, and the Winnfield Quarterback Club made several signs wishing them good luck along the way

The Sikes Wolf Creek Festival will be held this weekend, from Friday, Sept. 26 throughout the day on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Miss Winn Pageant to be held at WSHS

The 2014 Miss Winn Parish Pageant was mistakenly printed in the fair catalog as being held at the Winnfield Kindergarten School. The event will actually be held at the Winnfield Senior High School Auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 5:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Pageant Director Melody Bonnette at 727-8993.
