Winn Parish retail sales up in 2014

Retail sales in Winn Parish have seen a slight uptick through November of this year, and the parish will almost certainly see an increase in sales from 2013. Sales tax numbers released by the Winn Parish School Board show that the 2% sales tax collected by the board in the first 11 months of this year totals $3,584,698.05, which equals sales tax revenue of $179,234,902.50

Winnfield City Police and Firemen banded together this  weekend to help give a few kids a Merry Christmas. The Winnfield Police and Fire Department took 50 youngsters to Wal-Mart on Saturday and gave them $100 to spend on Christmas presents for themselves or members of their families

Road tax fails; Winn backs Republican candidates

Louisiana will have two Republican Senators holding concurrent offices for the first time since 1876 after the Dec. 6 general election saw Rep. Bill Cassidy unseat incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu in a sizeable defeat. Cassidy secured 712,330
votes to Landrieu’s 561,099, signaling a 56% win over the incumbent’s 44%.

Congress, Parish Sales Tax on Dec. 6 ballot

Winn Parish voters will join the other parishes in Louisiana and those in the 5th Congressional District in deciding the next U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative on Saturday, Dec. 6. In the U.S. Senate race, Sen. Mary Landrieu will face Rep. Bill Cassidy in what has become the most expensive election cycle in the history of Louisiana.

The turkey and dressing had barely had time to cool and LSU had just kicked off, but that didn’t stop shoppers from getting a jump-start on their Christmas lists at Wal-Mart on Thanksgiving night in Winnfield. The mayhem began at 6:00 p.m., when the first of three “Event” sales started.
