A chill was in the air on a crisp Wednesday morning when Lawrence White, President of the Winn Parish Library Board, approached the podium in front of the newly constructed library.
Those who attended the second annual D.A.R.T. Vigil last week were welcomed with a warm, sunny afternoon, despite the solemn, stoic occasion in which they had come to participate.
The Pilot Club of Winnfield will be out this Saturday, November 1st, collecting monies at traffic lights. Please look for them, they will be wearing green shirts, and help them fill the helmets that they will be holding.
The 2014 mid-term election open primary will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and a heated battle between Republicans and Democrats in Congress will (hopefully) be decided.
The Oct. 20 meeting of the Winn Parish Police Jury began with an announcement by President Jack McFarland of a public meeting that will be held on Monday, Dec. 15 where an ordinance will be passed to authorize a half-cent sales tax. If it’s approved on December 6, the board will have an open meeting on Dec. 15 and vote to levy the tax.

The Louisiana El Camino East/West Corridor Commission met on Oct. 22 to discuss by-laws and elect new officers for 2015. The East/West Corridor Commission is made up of a group of local mayors and individuals who represent parishes that are part of the El Camino East/West Corridor. The Commission is dedicated to a project that would fourlane five states along U.S. Highway 84.
In celebration of ADK Month, the Omicron Chapter of ADK made a donation to the Winn Parish Library in the form of a novel written by local author and business owner Heather Pendarvis.
The Winn Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Winnfield and the First United Methodist Church of Winnfield will be holding the second annual Fall Festival on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The Winnfield City Council passed an ordinance at last week’s regular meeting that set limits on where mobile homes can be placed within the city limits. Ordinance No. 12 of 2014, introduced by District 4 Councilman Matt Miller, states that “mobile homes and manufactured housing may not be placed on any parcel of land that fronts on or adjoins Maple Street, Main Street, Center Street, U.S. Highway 167 North and South in the City of Winnfield and U.S. Highway 84 West from it’s intersection with U.S. Highway 167 to the western city limits of the City of Winnfield.”
Winnfield Senior High School celebrated their 51 Homecoming during the week of Oct. 6- 10. A parade that rolled through Downtown Winnfield on Thursday kicked off the festivities and it was capped off with the football game against General-Trass and dance on Friday night. The 2014 Homecoming Court was presented on Thursday morning, with Raven Hebert named Queen and Dazy Turner and Alex VanBlaricum named Maids.
