Council hears more noise complaints

The March 10 meeting of the Winnfield City Council saw more discussion over the loud music nuisance in parts of the city.
Kenneth Dudley, Winnfield citizen who has addressed the council several times previously, asked that the 5-minute time limit on guest and audience participation be waived so that he would not have to return in April.

Journalist arrested in Winn Parish

James West, a reporter for newsmagazine Mother Jones, was arrested by the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office on Friday, March 13, for allegedly trespassing on C.C.A. property.

[Update; 3/17/15, 3:46 p.m.] It has been revealed that a CCA employee who did not appear for work on Monday morning following this arrest officially resigned this morning. The employee is believed to also have been a reporter for the Mother Jones newsmagazine. The Enterprise has been contacted by CCA's main office in Nashville, TN., but an official statement from them has not been released.

Students prepare for first phase of PARCC testing

Winn Parish teachers, parents, students and administrators will tackle the first phase of the controversial PARCC testing on Monday, March 16.  The PARCC test, which has come under fire from parents and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal because of its  ties to Common Core, will see third through eighth grade students taking the ELA (English Language Arts) and Math portions  of the test. The assessmentsare split into units, with students taking ELA Unit 1 on Monday, ELA Unit 2 on Tuesday, ELA Unit 3 on  Wednesday, Math Unit 1 onThursday and Math Unit 2 on Friday.

U.S. Rep. sends letter of thanks to Board

he March 2 meeting of the Winn Parish School Board saw a light agenda but received some good buzz from a freshman U.S.  Representative. First on the agenda was the reading of the Academics and  Instruction Committee report.The Academics and  Instruction Committee met onTuesday, Feb. 24, and heard from Winn Parish School Board Chief Technology Officer Amy Seward, who presented the committee with a technology update on computers and programs used in Winn Parish schools.
