Road Tax returns to ballot May 2

he Parish wide Sales Tax Proposition that failed by just 58 votes in Dec. 2014 will be back on the ballot on Saturday, May 2, 2015. The Winn Parish Police Jury met for their monthly  meeting last Wednesday, and Vice-President Doris Leeper,  who was serving as interim president in the absence of Jack McFarland, made a motion to send the proposition back to the voters. The jury voted unanimously adopted the motion. The jury was adamant about the importance of this new sales tax.

Council continues Vasserette discussion

The Winnfield City Council met for their monthly meeting on Feb. 10, and tensions were raised during a discussion about the defunct Vasserette Building. Kicking off the discussion was Winnfield City Police Chief Johnny Ray Carpenter, who addressed the council in response to questions that were raised at the previous meeting.

Atlanta High School students

Atlanta High School students wowed crowds at AHS last week with a Mardi Gras Parade that also served as a “Track-a-Thon” for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and local patient Josh Walker. Kids decorated their floats in traditional Mardi Gras colors, and each wore a picture of Walker and noted “#teamwalker.”

Clear skies and pleasant weather made for a beautiful day to be in Dowtown Winnfield on Saturday, as the 23rd Annual Krewe of Kingfish Mardi Gras Parade rolled through town.
