Winn Parish to become Work Ready Certified Community, jobs to follow

More than 50 community leaders gathered at the Louisiana Technical College in Winnfield Sept. 11 to publicly announce that Winn Parish is becoming a Work Ready Certified Community. “This is a national economic development initiative,” said Winnfield Mayor Kiah Beville. “I am proud to say that Winnfield and Winn Parish are part of this.”

In honor of the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001

In honor of the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, the Winnfield Fire Dept. raised the American flag over the city of Winnfield for the entirity of the day. Similar  to the picture above, Fire District 3 also flew a large American flag outside the fire house to remember the lives lost on that day.

Police Jury passes motions to help Village of Atlanta, apply for State Bond

The Winn Parish Police Jury met Monday, Aug. 17, 2015 for the regular meeting. Regular business included the monthly report on Section 8 by Executive Director Annie Goods and a motion to approve the monthly invoices from Doris Leeper.

Hunters, campers taxfree holiday begins Friday, ends Sunday

The 2015 Louisiana second amendment weekend sales tax holiday for hunters and campers will run from Friday, Sept. 4th, through Sunday, Sept. 6th. In 2009, the Louisiana Legislature passed Act 453 providing “…that the state and local sales and use tax shall not apply to consumer purchases of firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies each year for a certain period…”

Catholic church donates $4,000 to Louisiana Right to Life Federation

On August 26, 2015, a check for $4,000 was presented to the Louisiana Right to Life Federation. Ryan Verret, director, accepted the check on behalf of the federation. The funds were raised in May at the Chuck Weeks Memorial Pro Life 5K sponsored by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Vickie Weeks, Christin Page, Daniel Luke Page, Elizabeth Page and Catherine Page, members of the Chuck Weeks family, presented the check. Also present was Tracy Kelley, director of the event. Mr. Verret thanked the family and expressed his appreciation on behalf of the unborn children of Louisiana.

Rotary District 6190 Governor Jerry Wall of Monroe visited the Rotary Club of Winnfield at their August 26 meeting. The District Governor challenged the club in areas of membership growth, projects that support the local community particularly in the area of youth development and in giving to the Rotary Foundation which allows this international service organization to do good around the world.
