It wasn’t hard to find a way for the little ones at First Baptist Church Pre-School to beatthe heat this summer. Their parents packed their swimsuits and sandles for a fun afternoonin the water on the east side of the church. They delighted in moving from one water activity to the next, gleefully enjoying a break from their usual schedules.

Council discusses possible Recreation Tax

The July 14 meeting of the Winnfield City Council saw various topics of discussion about the city workings, butthe most interesting of which came in the form of a non-action item up for discussion,listed on the city agenda as“City Services.”District 2 Councilman Gerald Hamms discussed the possibility of introducing a“Recreation Tax” that would be used to fund services forthe Winnfield Recreation Department.

Donations slow for Community Food Pantry

The Community Food Pantry in Winnfield might just be the largest continuous service project in Winn Parish. With over 50 volunteers and a weekly grocery giveaway, the Community Food Pantry feeds hundreds of people in the area every month.
It is truly an ecumenical endeavor, spearheaded by a consortium of at least twenty churches in the area. They are completely funded by donations from churches and the community.
