Christmas Parade Friday at 6

The Winnfield Christmas Parade, originally set for Dec. 6, was rescheduled two weeks ago due to looming weather
conditions. The parade will now be held this week, on Friday, Dec. 20. All of the scheduled events will stay the same, with the parade starting at 6:00 p.m. and line-up for the floats starting at 5:00 p.m.

Board canvasses millage renewal

Board met on Dec. 2 to canvass rates for the millage renewal that was passed in the Nov. 16 election. After the reading of the Executive Committee Report by Durane Johnson, Superintendent Steve Bartlett asked that an item be placed on the agenda.

Winnfield Christmas Parade set for Saturday, December 7

The Winnfield Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, will be rolling through Downtown Winnfield this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Dubbed “A Terrific Kid Christmas,” the parade will honor those students who have been awarded the Kiwanis “Terrific Kid” recognition certificate.

Jury votes to apply for bridge repair funding

The Winn Parish Police Jury met on Nov. 18 to discuss new hires, finances and to mull over applying for funding that will repair several bridges throughout the parish. First on the agenda was an update on road progress given by Road Superintendent Perry Holmes.

“A Cajun Night Before Christmas”

Winnfield City Hall has decked their hall with a festive window display, encompassing the theme of “A Cajun Night Before Christmas.” Based on the famous 1992 children’s book by Louisiana author James Rice, the elaborate display is decorated with traditional Christmas icons and undercut with some recognizable “lagniappe.”

Winn student to perform at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

MaKayla Shelton, a student at Winfield Senior High School, has been selected to participate in the 2013 Macy’s Great American Marching Band as one of the select number of students from Louisiana. The Band is celebrating the 87th anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and will take an honor position in the parade on November 28, 2013. Students were selected based on their musical ability and past achievements. The opportunity was open to students from over 14,000 high schools across the United States.

WPS celebrates Thanksgiving

Winnfield Primary School allowed for some pre-Thanksgiving family time when parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles were invited to a special meal on Nov. 21. A traditional southern Thanksgiving Day lunch of chicken and dressing, with all of the trimmings, was served.
