New Winnfield Library to open on Monday

The new Winnfield library will officially open to the public on Monday, Aug. 25. The new building has been under construction since February 2013, and staff has been moving all books and equipment into the new building since Aug. 13. An open house will be announced to the public soon

Carpenter named middle school principal

The Winn Parish School Board met on Aug. 4 to hear various means of educational needs and to approve several resignations and new hires. Superintendent Steve Bartlett officially announced that Brent Carpenter would be replacing Kaye Pyles as the principal of the Winnfield Middle School.

Winn “Friends of NRA” hold annual banquet

Winnfield Civic Center on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The second “Friends of NRA” Banquet filled the civic center with equal amounts of swag and local supporters. Nearly three hundred people filed in to enjoy a meal and to bid on various items up for sale

State goes ‘Hog Wild’: feral hog costs are on the rise

Jury votes to merge and consolidate voting precincts

The July 21 meeting of the Winn Parish Police Jury saw discussion from concerned citizens and big changes in polling precincts around the parish. Guest and audience participation began with Bill Griffin, who was in attendance to ask the jury if they would approach Weyerhaeuser about revising their policies concerning provisions placed on hunting on their land that will take place after the upcoming hunting season.
