Unemployment numbers released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission show an uptick in unemployment in Winn Parish during the month of May 2016. The unemployment rate in Winn spiked to 8.1%, up from the 7 .7% in A pril. That’s down, however, from a year ago, when Winn’s unemployment hit a four-year high at 9.2%.

The annual Winnfield High School reunion filled the Winnfield Civic Center with alumni who spanned decades, and a fun trip down memory lane via an old KVCL broadcast from the class of 1966 ensured that everyone would leave with a little piece of romanticized history to take with them. The Class of 1966, celebrating their 50th, gathered several classmates and other alumni to put together a skit with the set-up that the graduating class of 1966 were gathered together for a radio broadcast on KVCL to tell listeners everything that had been accomplished throughout their senior year.

Mrs. Marjorie Price, on behalf of the Price Family, is shown presenting a check for $5,000 to Sheriff Cranford Jordan to go toward the purchase of a rescue boat for the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jordan noted that Mrs. Price and her family have always been ready to help the community during disasters and are an asset to the community. “This is a welcome addition to our rescue equipment,” Sheriff Jordan said.

Two Winnfield High School alumni were inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 25. Prior to the induction ceremony in Natchitoches, P.J. Brown and Anthony Thomas revisited their hometown of Winnfield Wednesday, June 22, for a meet and greet open to the public.
