Area children and adults will not want to miss Hampstead Stage Players at the Winn Parish Library's Summer Reading Program performance on Wednesday, June 22 at the Main Library at 10:00 a.m. and again at the Atlanta Branch, June 23, at 10:00 a.m. This free performance will be a unique experience for children and the library staff encourages attendance.

Officers with the Winnfield Police Department and the Winnfield Marshal’s Office executed a search warrant at 1502 Orange Street in the early morning hours of June 7 in connection with an ongoing investigation. Discovered during the search was a large amount of illegal drugs including Promethazine syrup, bags of marijuana, Carisoprodol pills, Hydrocodone pills, amitripltyline pills along with several rocks of crack-cocaine and crystal methamphetamine. Unused baggies and a set of scales were also recovered.  

Work began on Hwy. 84 West just past McDonald’s on bridge replacement Thursday, June 9 for approximately the next 90 working days.

Four Winn CASA Volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocates) were sworn in by Judge Jacque D. Derr at the Winn Parish Courthouse on Monday, June 6. The advocates from left are Marcie Huddleston, Karla Wroten, Angela Rodgers and Michelle Carpenter. A reception for the advocates followed at the Winn CASA Office.

After 25 years as the Director of the Winn Parish Library, Mary Doherty is stepping down. In those 25 years, Doherty has seen a lot of changes and made a lot of changes happen. “One of the biggest things was computers,” she said. “When we got our first computer it was huge. We were so proud of it.”

A drawdown on Saline Lake is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 14, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The purpose of the drawdown is to fight the aquatic plant growth engulfing the lake. The lake, created in 1933 with the building of Allen Dam, has been plagued with heavy aquatic vegetation that causes problems for boaters and fishermen.

WINNFIELD, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A lack of answers is leading a mourning family to protest police response to a fatal shooting in Winnfield. Family members say Fernando Jewitt was shot and killed in broad daylight, and the Winnfield Police Department has provided little in the way of justice.
