‘No change’ in mayor recount

A voting recount was held on May 8 at the Winn Parish Registrar of Voter’s Office in Winnfield. The recount, requested by Raza “Ali” Mughal, was conducted by two officials from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office, Winn Parish Clerk of Court Don Kelley and two members of the Board of Election Supervisors, with assistance from Winn Registrar of Voters Rita James and Deputy Registrar Bryan Kelley.

Chief warns of vehicle breakins

A purse was stolen out of this vehicle while it was parked under the owner’s carport.

Chief Johnny Ray Carpenter of the Winnfield City Police Department would like to advise the citizens of Winnfield and Winn Parish that a rash of vehicle break-ins has occurred over the last few weeks. The break-ins are widespread and are not relegated to one specific area.

Market Fest 2014 this Friday

The Winn Farmer’s Market Market Fest 2014 event will be held on Friday, May 16 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Market Fest is located at the Winn Farmers’ Market on the corner of Main and St. Johns Street in Winnfield. Downtown merchant booths will be available, and there will be fun for the entire family.

Gates announces Public Service Commissioner candidacy

Keith Gates appeared at the Louisiana Public Service Commission meeting in Bossier City on May 7 and announced that he would challenge Foster Campbell for the Public Service Commission (“PSC”) District 5 seat this fall. Gates stated that he entered the race “because the people of our state deserve lower rates, better service, and less bull.”

The City of Winnfield elected its newest mayor on Saturday, May 3 and named two new candidates to the City Council.
Benjamin “Kiah” Beville, retired businessman and lifelong resident of Winnfield, won a narrow victory against challenger Raza “Ali” Mughal

Jury supports El Camino East/West Corridor

The April 21 meeting of the Winn Parish Police Jury began with guest speakers from three very different areas of Louisiana development. First, Road Superintendent Perry Holmes presented a road update to the jury and gave thanks as he  repares to end his term as President of the Louisiana Parish Engineer’s and Supervisor’s Association.

School. The opening ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a welcome from Winn Parish Sheriff Cranford Jordan and a  prayer by Rev. Russell Jones
