The Winn Parish Police Jury met for a Special Called Meeting June 23 to discuss funding for the Eighth Judicial District Court, with a lack of funding meaning that the court could shut down.

Judge Jacque Derr said for the month of July the district would have around $7,435.22, short $11,273.39 of its $18,708.61 expenses that it requires for the court to run.

Winnfield resident Stephon Wilson, a senior at Grambling State University, was selected by The White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) as part of the 2020 HBCU Competitiveness Scholars -- the initiative’s highest student recognition.

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is encouraging all eligible Louisianians to consider voting early in the Presidential Preference Primary. Early voting begins Saturday, June 20 and continues through Saturday, July 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, excluding Sunday, June 21 and Sunday, June 28. Pursuant to the Emergency Election Plan, the early voting period has been extended by six days.
