Local Couple Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

On February 1, Jack and Betsy McLaren were presented with a Lifetime Achievement award for their accomplishments as owners of Central Industrial Supply in Winnfield. Matt Purser, a Winnfield native himself, made the presentation at the Field Market summit held in Pineville Thursday evening. The couple was recognized for their successful business endeavors since the founding of the company in 1984.

As local business owners and employer, the McLarens have always stressed quality customer service and integrity in business. When approached in 2017 by Crest Industries about becoming part of the Crest team, Jack first ensured that Crest would continue to operate from Winnfield and that the current employees would be retained.

Weather Forces Fais Do Do To Be Cancelled, But Mardi Pardi Brings Back Memories Of The 1980s

Our temperamental Louisiana weather caused the Dugdemona Festival Board to cancel the Fais Do Do this past Saturday, but the indoor fun of the Mardi Pardi dance, was held in spite of the rain.

The Winnfield Civic Center was filled with over 21-year old partygoers, sporting their best 1980s outfits and hairstyles. Tables were decorated with themes from the 80s and provided a blast from the past for those attendees who are old enough to remember the era.

Exxon Mobil Gives Back To WPS

Exxon Mobil has a long history of supporting educational programs that focus on improvement in math and science from pre-school to higher education. A local business, The Country Girl, nominated Winnfield Primary School for one of Exxon Mobil’s Educational Alliance grants. Mr. Scott Phelps of Lott Oil and Mrs. Angie Chandler of the Country Girl presented Mrs. Amy Dantzler, principal of Winnfield Primary School, with the $500 grant check.

Dug’ Board Hosting Fais Do Do And Mardi Pardi This Saturday

Saturday will be a very busy day for members of the Dugdemona Festival Board as they host TWO exciting events to help celebrate the Mardi Gras season. At noon, vendors will be setting up at the Winn Parish Fairgrounds, with gates opening to the public at 2:30 in the afternoon. Political candidates will check in at 2:30 and at 3:00 they will participate in an old-time political stump, called the “Stewing on the Stump”. At 3:15, BINGO will begin, and the Pet Parade will begin at 3:30.

The Chicken Run will begin at 4:00, which will be followed by a King Cake Eating Contest at 4:30. At 5:00, everyone is invited to gather around as the bon fire is lit. The daytime activities will be full of fun for the entire family, with plenty of kids’ activities and food.

Weather Changes The Look of Winn Parish And Brings Warning From State Fire Marshal

Amid a spike of fire-related deaths, and with several more weeks of freezing, frigid temperatures in the forecast,the Office of Louisiana State Fire Marshal issued the following news release on January 17th.

While Louisiana endures a second round of bitter, record-breaking cold weather in as many weeks, state officials from the Governor’s Office to the State Fire Marshal’s Office are encouraging everyone to remain vigilant in maintaining safety while staying warm.

Krewe Of Kingfish Brings A Soiree In The Swamp To Winnfield

The Winn Parish School Board met on January 8, 2018 and started the new year with electing a new School Board President and Vice President.

School Board Member Durane Johnson gave the invocation, and School Board Member Matt Walton led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Only two School Board Members were not in attendance at the meeting. Those not present included Ms. Sarah McCoy and Ms. Leah Clingan.
