Toilet paper shortages started during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, now coin shortages have surfaced in America. Signs are popping up telling customers to pay with exact change or to pay with credit or debit cards.

When the economy shut down, so to did the U.S. Mint, which prints the coins that go into circulation.

Two people are now in custody in connection with the shooting of a Winn Parish juvenile in Natchez on Saturday evening according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.

Xavier J. Wright, 17, of Glenmora, La. accompanied by his mother turned himself in to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff ’s Detectives on on July 20.

Wright was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and transported to Ware Youth Center in Red River Parish pending a hearing in the Tenth Judicial District Court.

With elections held online, contest from the comfort of homes and nightly assemblies supported by broadband, 4-H University, held virtually June 22-25, looked a lot different this year. This was the 106th annual event and for the first time was not held on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. 4-H’ers from across the state typically stay on campus for the week and participate in educational programs and contest, convene to elect new state officers and leadership boards, and take part in social activities.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, 4-H agents and volunteers decided to move the event online. “The sheer magnitude of developing the virtual 4-H University took many dedicated 4-H professionals and IT specialists,” said Janet Fox, LSU AgCenter 4-H department head. “We all had a steep learning curve, but in the end, I’m so proud and amazed by the responsiveness of our 4-H professionals and the resilience of our 4-H members”.

The Winn Parish School District has released their return-to-school-plan detailing what school will look like during the pandemic, and allow learning to take place safely for each of the three phases that Louisiana might be in at the time.

The plan, which is available on the Winn Parish School Board’s website and for pick-up at any local school in the parish, was voted on a passed unanimously last Tuesday, July 21.

“I know a lot of the decisions we make and the direction we take will not be in everybody’s favor,” Superintendent Steve Bartlett said..” But the Decisions we make is for the wellbeing of the children in the Winn Parish school system, the staff and the community of Winn Parish.”

The arraignment for Michael Lance Gardner, 37, has been postponed from its July 13 date and expected to move to early August due to Gardner’s lawyer needing to be quarantined due exposure to COVID-19.
