Town and Country Presents “The Lost Ways”

March 16-Backyard

Chicken Flocks

If you have never raised livestock one of the best way to get started is chickens. They don’t need much room and they are one of the least expensive animals to raise. They are also just a lot of fun, each hen with her own unique personality. And oh yeah, the eggs out of your back yard taste sooo much better than the store bought varieties plus backyard eggs contain less cholesterol, less saturated fat and far more vitamin A, vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids than the ones in styrofoam crates.

Backyard Chicken Flocks for Beginners will be taught by Winnfield’s very own Donnie Moon. Our county agent will help beginners get off to the right start as he covers the basics of raising backyard poultry.

Article Image Alt Text

Log truck overturns on US Hwy. 84 East on Monday, March 4 next to The Family Church.

The Winn Parish Library is collecting books for a second annual book sale, to be held March 7 - 9, 2019, in the Library’s meeting room. Books in good condition may be dropped off anytime during open hours through Wednesday, March 6, at the Library’s main location or at any of the branches. Donations of children’s books are especially needed.

The sale is sponsored by the newly organized Friends of the Winn Parish Library. Books covering a wide variety of subjects for all ages will sell for $1.00 per hardback and $.50 per paperback (cash only please). The group expects to host a book sale each year on the second weekend of March. “We want to make it easy for people to remember,” said Friends founder Katherine Brewton, who added that an earlier sale held last spring had inspired a small group of volunteers to organize and plan for an annual event.
